this is going to be an odd post but it’s my last resort. My boyfriend isn’t bald however his hair is thinning and it gets him very very down. He started taking finasteride, he has been on it for a few months it hasn’t made a difference to his hair but it has made a massive difference to how he is as a person. He is moody he is snappy he acts literally like I don’t exist and it’s like he hates me, but some days he will be so so loving. Normally we have a beautiful relationship never arguments but since these tablets everything has changed. I know it’s the tablets but he is in denial and thinks everything all of a sudden is my fault. I’ve been apologetic for situations that havnt been my fault but he’s believed they have. I don’t know what to do because he thinks the tablets arnt effecting his moods when they really are. I’d stand by him through thick and thin but It’s getting me down so so much because he is so hot and cold. I’ve begged him to stop taking them but he just thinks it’s everyone else around him being a pain. What advice can anyone give me?? Can they recommend anything else?? Has anyone had a side effect like this? :( its breaking my heart.

Sorry your situation, but you need to konw that hormones are neurotransmisors, and can act on mood. Finas alter them
A lot of luck

I understand but he is not willing to understand it’s the tablets. He thinks it’s everyone else rather than the tablets.

Have him try lowering dose. .25 mg. Will still help with hairloss. With less side effects

finasteride acts by supressing an enzyme in the body its not benzos or some other mind altering drug, have you considered the possibility he is having a hard time losing his hair? mood swings tend to happen when you remember something unpleasant

I wouldn't blame it all on the tablets. Sure they could be contributing but as someone who has been drastically altering my hormones for a while now ( with drugs far stronger than finasteride ) I can't say its affected my mood at all. Maybe there is something going on with him that he isn't telling you? As far as I know mood swings are not a recognized side effect of the drug, but it definitely exists. When you said it hasn't made a difference to his hair do you mean its gotten worse or looks the same? finasteride isn't a drug expected to regrow hair, it simply prevents the hair you still have from falling out... 83% of the time.

First of all, I think your bf should be very lucky with someone that cares so much about him!

Yes, finasteride can cause really bad side effects. Are you sure that it cannot be related to anything else by the way? Usually, there are also sexual side effects with finasteride. Does he experience those as well?
