Hi all,

I would love some advice from those of you with experience on if my hairline requires hair loss treatment or simply to be watched carefully. I noticed my temples began to recede, but it's more pronounced on my left side than my right, and my forehead is still the same as it always has been. I'm 19 years old and don't know if this just an aggressively mature hairline, or something to begin treatment on right away. Please let me know your thoughts, anything would be helpful and appreciated. I haven't noticed hair falling out or not growing fast enough, I do feel like the hair that I have is strong and secure.

It's definitely time to take action. It's not just a mature hairline, it's make pattern baldness. From the sides it looks like NW3 but from the top it looks like NW2. I see thinning at your hairline and maybe above your ear too (retrograde alopecia).
Get some finasteride and keep a good photographic record. Hopefully you will maintain. Don't bother with minoxidil, it's not very good at regrowing temple hair.

If you noticed a temple is receding, then it may likely be alopecia.
Mature hairline at 19 is a bit early.
However I think 19 is a bit early for finasteride as it can compromise the finalization of your growth.
I would keep the situation under control until at least 20, then start fina. Before that, minoxidil can help a bit.

Thank you both for the advice, I truly appreciate it. I do turn 20 in a couple months, and I have a few questions still. First, do you guys think minoxidil will at least maintain my current hairline? That is my primary goal, to keep my current head of hair. Secondly, while I would love to grow some temple hair back, I have heard some people have health issues with finasteride, and it can even cause fertility problems. Is any of this true, and if so, is it worth the risk? Finally, I was thinking of going on minoxidil until the summer and then starting finasteride (I will be 20 by then) if it continues to get worse- do you guys think that is a good plan?
