Quick introduction: spotted very first signs of hairline thinning at 21 (crown was perfect and still is). started taking propecia after 7 months. Now I'm in my 9th month on propecia. However my hair is still thinning in the worst pattern (ALL the front, but of course more in the temples, and I'd say every hair on my top is also 30-40% thinner than before).

I'd say the thinning has slowed down a tiny bit (and I hope it will eventually stop), however the majority of the frontal area has very short hair (see pic). I need to make them thicker and longer. What are my options? Sticking with propecia? Adding some stimulant? Forgetting about it?

(But I must say I hate the idea of having to apply minoxidil locally twice a day...)

First off I would advise a shorter hair cut . Give finasteride another 3 months and then move on to Dutasteride . Look up RU58841 to use as a topically treatment and definately start minoxidil if you haven't already .

You're 21 with probably aggressive male pattern baldness so I would say you'd need more than just finasteride to halt it

Yes, I need to cut it. So you're suggesting RU58841+minoxidil+dutasteride together?

I actually wanted to wait 1 year on propecia before adding minoxidil (hoping to mantain). The idea of being a slave to minoxidil, twice a day, terrifies me.

Sometimes finasteride takes over a year to see results, but it is your call. I have been on finasteride for a month now and I am seeing a slight shed, mainly around my hairline. I feel if my hair doesn't start getting better after 18 month mark of being of finasteride, then I will either use dutasteride or continue using finasteride but add minoxidil. I would rather switch to dutasteride than have to use minoxidil with finasteride to be honest. dutasteride is hard to get from a doctor, good luck.

dutasteride is a disturbingly potent anti-androgen. It will affect more than just hairloss. finasteride isn't far behind.

Be appraised of the risks associated with these treatments. dutasteride isn't prescribed by doctors for a reason. Some people do well from finasteride, others not so much and other get bad side effects. Educate yourself before deciding on these things.

I am aware of the risks of finasteride but I must say all the side effects disappeared after 2 months. I am a bit scared of dutasteride though, as I am only 22.

It's not bad at all, literally it takes no more then 30 seconds to apply.

I understand, but I'd be constantly reminded of the thing. Taking a pill is almost subconscious. (yes, "first world problems"...)
