Hi all

My hair temples have been thinning on and off rather than 'balding' over the last 5 yrs. I've seen in a lot of photos online that in male pattern baldness, both temples will be completely empty in most cases.

In my case, both my temples have thinned noticeably but there are still hair on each side. Hairline has NOT receded either, which is weird. My hair shape look like a norwood 3, just that my 2 temples have thin hair and are not bald. I'm 30yo now btw.

Is it possible to get thinned temples instead of bald temples from male pattern baldness? To be honest, I've been watching this forum for the past few yrs and have been waiting for my hairline to recede or my temples to go completely bald but these didnt happen

Now i'm thinking if i've misdiagnosed myself with male pattern baldness..

In summary timeline would be:

2013: Experienced extremely stressful event, left temple started shedding very very heavily. Visited a Doctor who told me my hair will grow back but it didnt

2014: Shedding extended to right temple but stopped after awhile. At this point, I have a thin left temple and pretty ok right temple.

2018: Experienced extremely stressful event again (FML seriously), shedding hits my right temple this time.

Male pattern baldness .Stress has got nothing to do with it. Still, for a 30 yr old it's pretty nice.

Well, this is when i had short hair.

The thinned temples are really ugly when I grow my hair longer..

I parted my hair and shone light on it so that it'll be more obvious.

The norwood 3 / 4 shape is very obvious, but the hair are still there on the temple. I've been in this state for around 4yrs+ ever since my first stressful trauma.

I've not been on any treatments since my Doctor suggested the hair should grow back on it's own

Is this normal?

On a side note, my right temple is in a much much better state but has been shedding like crazy ever since i got dumped 2 months back.

This is not because of stress. You are at the early stage of grief- being indenial. The shorter it takes for you to skip this phase, the faster you can hop on meds and keep your hair.

Actually I've already accepted the fact that I'm going to lose all my hair sooner or later. I just find it weird that the hair loss process is so uneven.

Btw, do diffused male pattern baldness sufferers end up with a bald head eventually? Or will my entire head just look like my current left temple?

It's different for everyone, but yeah your entire head can look like that. I advise you to hop on meds though. You seem like a great candidate. 30 years of age, diffuse male pattern baldness, temples still intact. If the meds work you can have a full recovery.

Forgot to mention that most people have uneven hairloss. I do. The right temple is worse off than the left for me.

But before you decide to hop on meds, visit a derm, get your bloodwork done, read about the side effects, etc.

Anyway, i just want to ask.. How potent / serious is minoxidil treatment? I've gotten a few bottles of kirkland minoxidil and have been wondering if i should start using it before my derm appt (13 March)

Yes Rogaine will help but it doesn't stop the root cause of balding. So it wont keep you from going bald. Dont expect to be a full head with just that. I highly recommend propecia.

Back to a previous post of yours. You are clearly past an N2/N3. Balding starts at the temples for the majority of men FYI. The fact that you have vellus hairs on the temples is actually more indicative of MBP. The front part of the hairline doesn't normally move until the N4+ stages. However you will notice your hairline making more of a V shape

I'm seeing rather mixed opinions online.. Is propecia still effective, knowing that my thinning started 5 yrs ago? God knows how many follicles died already.

I cant seem to find information online about the definition of dead hair follicles and if any tests can be done to determine it

Honestly, no medication will significantly regrow hair. It will help you keep the hair you have and prevent future thinning. Rogaine may help thicken the hair left on your temples but only if you do it 2x per day religiously. Combination propecia + Rogaine will yield best results

Would appreciate it if you could answer mine https://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/intera...-make-me-look-to-old-to-be-in-college.112036/
