For DYI hair system for a beginner, do you recommend to go with a lace w/ POLY or no POLY? (POLY on side and back - not in front for sure). And also, I heard tape is much easier to clean up, I am a bit worried about the frontal detectability.. shall I go with glue or tape? Thanks.

I can tell you that the ST30 is so thick it is NOT undetectable to touch. There are some thinner "tapes" that are actually glues on a strip. Everyone on toplace is saying the ST30 is very easy to clean up though. I've noticed that myself.

As for poly sides, you can swim underwater better with even weaker glues, compared to all swiss. But the hairs are much more fixed in one direction. Lace hairs can be made to go anyway, but you'll have to stick with the direction of the hairs on the poly. Poly also is more detectable to touch, I've read. But once it is off, it is easier to clean. It also costs more. I heard it sheds faster, but I don't know if that is true for the newer materials.

Poly hairs look like they are growing right out of the scalp. I don't know what they do to hide the bent end though. No knots though.

CCS, so what kind of base are you using (swiss + no poly?) and are you using ST-30 or what type of adhersive? Thanks.

I'm using all swiss. I tried ST30, Basebond, and Oil resistant white glue. I love the glues. They are thin, and easy to remove. They are NOT super strong. They are strong enough to withstand wind and swimming, I'm sure, and fingers in hair. But if someone was trying to pull a piece off, they could. At least off my skin. Short of that though, the glues will do the job. They stay sticky though, so I ordered the adhesive sealer from Sally's.

I also heard that where the poly overlaps the lace, it is detectable to sight. So are the pleats on the base, but those are 2 inches in.
