Hey JustStarting.

I've had a positive experience with Finasteride (although this is a repeat of something I recently posted elsewhere). Started it over four-and-a-half years ago, at age 21 when I started to notice the signs of male pattern baldness. As of now, I've maintained almost everything I had when I started -- and that's just with finasteride and no other treatments (except Nizoral 1%). The effects of finasteride are just starting to fade a tiny bit for me now, which is why I've been mulling regimen changes in other threads recently.

As for side effects: when I first started it, I had greasy skin and a little bit of surface acne for a couple weeks. My libido was up and down for a few weeks, but that wasn't really a big deal. (And it was more up than down!) I shed a little bit after six weeks, and then a ton at six months. It really took a full year until I was happy being on the drug -- not because the shedding was so horrible, but because I was convinced that finasteride wasn't doing a damn thing to help me. Once I got to around ten months, I looked in the mirror and realized that things were a bit thicker in back, and that I hadn't deteriorated in front from my baseline at all. Then I realized that the drug was working. Thing was, since nothing very dramatic ever happened, I never noticed it was doing anything for me -- until the day I realized that I'd maintained my hair for a year (and then two, then three, then four years).

Once I realized it was working, I went from being depressed about my hair all the time (and spending lots of time lurking on gourmetstylewellness.com every day) to getting on with my life. Sure, I wish I could have regrown every last hair in back, or restored my hairline to where it was when I was twelve years old, but the results I got were entirely consistent with what the finasteride studies showed: maintenance with maybe just a little regrowth. The key with this drug, as everyone on the gourmetstylewellness.com talk boards kept saying to newbies like me at the time, is patience.

Great posts guys....I've been mulling starting finasteride due to the risk of PERMANANT side effects that won't abate if I discontinue use. I'm going to have to make up my mind soon though....

More than 2 years off Propecia. Sexual problems STILL haven't gone away and are as bad as ever.

Uhm, thanks for responding. But this wasn't a b**ch and moad thread about finasteride problems, it was for POSITIVE experiences.

Yesterday I was on the train, and this hot *** woman walks on. She was wearing some ridiculous "needs me a man" outfit, tube top, leather pants, etc.

I would have kicked it to her, but I popped the most ridiculous throbbing boner of all time because I was thinking about like bending her over and while doing so she's all like "no, no..." and then I stick it in her and she's like "oh god, yes, yes!" and I'm like yeah, you sl*t, you love it.

Libido issues? Hmm....

axon, you may want to copyright that story, and sell it to propecia as an example of the lack of side effects with propecia. you could make a fortune.

good results

Been on finasteride since July 2004, with two month break...been back on about a month and a half. Also using minoxidil (a year and a half or so)

Excellent results. Thinning crown area filling back in nicely. Libido has been slightly up I think....excellent erections. Basically, the sh*t works.

My regimen now:

Fincar 1/4th (1.25 mg) daily (just switched to pure generic)

nizoral 1% every M-W-F

minoxidil, 2x a day.

Results: Excellent...near cosmetically acceptable for me (keeping it short, like #1 guard)

Side effects: Perhaps some up and down with libido early on, but usually up, good erections, semen production normal, no fat gain, no gyno, oily skin, increased muscle mass.

Love this site, but starting to get to where I don't think about male pattern baldness anymore. My advice, get on the big three (buy CIPLA generic fincar from this site at Drugs-one), and follow your ritual every day, 1 mg to 1.25 mgs daily, throw on some minoxidil in the morning, some minoxidil in the evening (don't sweat it if you miss an application) and use nizoral a few times a week.

Bump to get more POSITIVE STORIES :)

Please, complain elsewhere. This is to give people (like myself) comfort knowing that the complaining posts in this forum are not typical. :)

Agreed. I will edit it out now :)

However, if you read some of the above posts, some people used this thread to still complain about side effects rather then going elsewhere.

I'm not complaining about the intent of your topic. But that isn't a really respectful way to characterize people that happen to get side effects -- as bitchers and moaners. C'mon.

But you know the vast majority i.e. 95%+ (from Merck's clinical trials) of people won't experience side effects so what is the point of this post?

What do you think is going to give you a better idea of the risk of side effects, Merck's double blind study or your little thread?

1. Effect of finasteride
2. Duration you are on finasteride
3. That you have no side effects. OR if you had side effects how long until they dissapated.

1. Im not losing as many hairs in the shower/pillow etc.
2. 7 months
3. Had a few side effects in month 2/3 but went away

Instant regrowth.
1 day on finasteride.
1 four hour side effect but as directed, I immediately seen a doctor and got relief.

Started a massive shed that left me worse off than I was before.
1 year on brand-name propecia.
About three months of decreased libido (months 3-6, I think) then return to a libido as strong as it was before.

This is not for me to use to replace merck. It's to benefit newbs, such as myself, who come here for help / advice and get very scared from all the negative postings.
