Possible reason for the male pattern baldness itch

It seems that 30% of us get the "itch" with male pattern baldness and that is largely anecdotal. I am quite sure I recently discovered what was causing it for myself.

My itch came back over the course of this Summer even though I have been on finasteride since January. I was getting concerned that the finasteride had stopped working but in the last week I have taken to scrubbing my hair more aggressively when I wash it. My itching has ceased since starting this

I know that's is how you are supposed to wash your hair but I have barely scrubbed at all the past couple years due to the fear that I will rub out more hair. My guess now is that my scalp just wasn't getting cleansed well enough and was becoming irritated.

My question is, is it possible that those of us with the "itch" are getting it simply because we are too timid in the way we shampoo? It may seem silly but this has worked for me and I am barely shedding at all as opposed to what it was before.

I sure hope so! It's been amazing not to feel any itch whatsoever since washing my hair like this.

Might be different depending on the case. I can say I basically have washed my hair the same way for 28 years and the hair loss started at like 21. The itch moved around as I lost hair. It started at temples, and recently moved to the very frontal hair line and I can tell I have lost density there but its still considered a mature hair line. How I washed my hair, my diet, none of that ever changed so why would I believe my hair going bye bye is because of those things when they were constant through my whole life?

Definitely not in my case. I had no idea that male pattern baldness was hitting me when the itch first started. It was awful, and I changed shampoos trying to figure out what it was. I scrubbed my scalp thoroughly with each one, and also gently, trying to figure out if it was from irritation or whatnot. I eventually figured out it was male pattern baldness.

When people find these forums they almost immediately start using stuff like Nizoral that cause a lot of us problems with itching. I am one of them and I do not use that stuff.

nizoral seemed okay for me despite making my hair the consistency of straw. I haven't used it since April due to the shortage.

It does seem to be different for everyone. All I know is I've been washing my hair like this for a week with different shampoos and I have had no itching or shedding whatsoever. I'll give it a few months though, my itching could just be something that changes with the seasons.

I think it's pretty obvious some people's "itch" is due to products used like Nizoral. However, some of us try Nizoral to calm down the persistent "itch" that's there no matter what we do.

The only thing that ever helped me was finasteride...completely eliminated it.

Whats obvious to you is not to others.

I've never noticed an "itch" with male pattern baldness

However, when I was around 13 I suffered from a severe dandruff problem and remember my head itching all the time. Cassin might be right, as I had to use an anti-dandruff shampoo back then, maybe it contained keto.

And I don't understand why I never worried about the shedding. Me and some other kids used to have "contests" where we would scratch our heads and collect the most dandruff in our seats. If I saw that much hair fall today I might pass out

Yeah, I definitely miss the days when I could brush my hair as hard as I wanted to and not have to worry about losing more hair. I never used to worry about the clumps of hair my brush collected and these days it seems I have to frantically count each hair I brush out!

Thankfully, in the past couple weeks I have only been brushing out 3 to 5 hairs each time as opposed to the 15-20 it was before.
