Propecia and sperm counts

Has there been studies comparing before and after sperm counts for propecia use? I assume the original FDA Phase studies must have included sperm counts, but I could not find anything. Thanks.

My wife and I are going through fertility treatments , my counts are excellent according to the clinic. I have been on a quarter proscar for about a year. Hope that helps

yes, before i was on propecia, i counted 8 sperms, but now that im on propecia, i can count just 2 sperms.

Anyone have any answers to the poster's original question? I know ejaculation becomes somewhat weaker and sperm is not as thick, but does that actually affect sperm count. From what I've heard NO. Does anyone have any info that would state the contrary?

Its one thing to have decreased ejaculate fluid or sore balls, it is another thing to have your ability to concieve (i.e. sperm counts) reduced from finasteride. How is it that one of the moderators or experienced posters not have an answer to this. It seems very normal for someone to ask a question like this?

I tried to get my wife pregnant while using both finasteride and minoxidil. I wasn't having any luck so I had a fertility test done. My sperm count was very high but only 10% of the sperm were normal. You need at least 30% for full fertility.

So my doctor recommended I stop using finasteride until my wife was pregnant. I stopped using finasteride and had another fertility test 1 month later. The proportion of normal sperm had jumped to 65%. Now my wife is pregnant with my first child.

I still haven't gone back to using finasteride. I was always nervous about using it because it is an oral drug that has system wide effects. I always felt a slight pain in my testicles while I was on finasteride that went away completely after I stopped.

Anyhow my hairline seems to be maintaining itself OK for now on minoxidil alone. Maybe later I'll add a topical anti-androgen to my regimen.
