The fogginess has subsided drastically, my back has improved. Memory is still an issue at times. Energy is sky high. Confidence is back. Had some insomnia for a couple nights, I suppose from the energy burst. Energy is high, mind is noticebly more active. I'm not going back to finasteride. I took it after a hair transplant to help keep what I had. The negative side affects outweigh the benefit. I'm going with touch up hair transplants going forward if needed
That’s great news! I only took 4 pills and got extreme brain fog - felt like a dream. It’s been 1 week and the brain fog has gotten slightly better. How long did it take for your fog to dissipate?

I got all the same symptoms. Even tried a topical finasteride but the same result. It can take months to get back to normal.

Same symptoms as me? Glad to hear you got back to normal. Gives me some hope. Anything that helped?

No i got the same sides as Aaron and i was doing it for a similar time. I find that daily Berocca, vitamin D & n-acetylcysteine helped alleviate the symptoms. I still struggle with insomnia though.

I was so happy to find this thread - I am a 50 yo woman who has been using Rogaine 5% Foam for about 1 1/2 years religiously - recently I started having these 'blank out' episodes. Would totally forget something that just happened - my husband gave me a piece of pie (put it down next to me) & 5 min later I asked him where's my pie?? He didn't know what to say. The other day I was looking for my wallet and found it tucked neatly in the kitchen draw...….no recollection of putting it there. My memory is great otherwise, no forgetting important things, directions, numbers, no problems at work, etc. I don't think I have early dementia. Looking back I think I've been much more fatigued than I used to be and have been noticing the 'brain fog' for quite awhile, just not as efficient as I used to be. I threw my Rogaine in the garbage and feel better already......whether coincidence or not, I don't know. I won't look forward to my hair regrowth falling out in a few months but I'd rather have my brain (!) Very scary side effect...….

hello!!! my brother used to take finisteride for over 3 years and had permanent memory issues, he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer at 45 years old. I would stop taking this medication, there are many reports of brain fog but of course it is not convenient for the manufacturer and no more research has been done.

Esla,
sorry for this situation, but
can you give us more information about it? How he was diagnosed?

yes, he took propecia and slowly started to have more episodes of brain fogginess until he decided to stop taking the medication 2 years ago. Although doctors told him the medication does not cause fogginess, all these symptoms developed with the medications. His fogginess never cleared out. We reported to the FDA, but it is a long process and I am sure not everyone will suffer the same effects.
He is currently unable to come out with words, or it takes him very long time to express himself. MRIs were normal, and after some neuroevaluation he was diagnosed with Alzheimer disease.
When his symptoms got worse I started to look online and found several people complaining of fogginess but even though I tried to reach for them, I was never able to contact them

Elsa that is heart breaking to hear that he has had such a diagnosis at such an early age. Early on set Alzheimers is more common than most people think! However it would be difficult to point the finger at Finasteride even if it was some sort of catalyst as most people recover from their fogginess after ceasing.

I did read somewhere that there is a group of people who are suing Merck over Finasteride so it may be worth trying to contact them first. I don't have a link to them but you could start here.

Early Alzheimers is a very bad thing. People in my family get it.

There are some things you can do to prevent or delay Alzheimers. And I study
this all the time, but I am no expert of course.

1. Physical intense excercise -> at least 150 minutes of high activity per week.
This also includes weight lifting, which helps diabetes and better sleep.

2. Valtrex, because scientists in Sweden have found an HSV 1 link. Even the U.S.
has finally gotten on the same page. In New York, they are giving Alzheimer's patients
two grams of Valtrex to see if it there symptoms remain stable (don't get worse).

You really need to do the above things.

And if you think about it, it does make sense. Alzheimer's starts twenty years before
symptoms appear.

Older people usually don't tend to work out as actively as in their younger years.

Finasteride is no joke. It's like going thru life watching a static black and white t.v. versus high definition tv. Stuff is potent! Should be banned.

Another story about finasteride causing mental problems yet people will still defend it and refer to mercks trial study. Unbelievable!

Don't blame your mental problems on Merck... you probably already had them before even trying finasteride

Yes, thank you for the information. Unfortunately, he took the generic the last years and therefore does not qualify for the lawsuit.

my intention here is just to let people be aware of the risks. I can't prove causation or correlation, but I am sure my brother would love to have known some people had foggines as a result before he started taking it. I wish everyone good luck and hope if you are still willing to keep taking the medication, make sure you take the brand name or you will not be able to be part of any lawsuit if you are ever affected

I can tell you what happend with me and how i CURED it. I had the worst BRAIN FOG ever for 3 years straight and nothing worked. I finally checked my T levels and there were 240, The doctor said I was in normal range but I persisted and got on a Testosterone replacement therapy and after the FIRST SHOT I got my brain back. Its been 3 months on trt now and I feel amazing.

Get as much Data from your labs as possible.

Get a full panel of blood work including Test, free T, SHBG and estradiol. If you test level is below 350, you got your anwer.

@tomJ well that's a great question and it's kind of hard for me to answer. I did take propecia for about 4 months and quit due to sexual side effects in 2015, by 2018 I was diagnosed with a form of "Hypogonadism" aka low T. I don't want to blame propecia, but for me my body never recovered and I progressively got worse. I was 34 when I first took propecia. Even though this happened to me I still feel the drug is safe under the right conditions, such as micro dosing and doing proper blood work. I don't feel doctors should should just hand this medication out and say there's only a 2% chance of side effects as I feel that's completely inaccurate. With that said I try to be completely unbiased and I am still a proponent of propecia under the right circumstances as its one of the few things that really work.

Pikemason thank you for the reply. So are you on any treatments now?
