http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/17/world ... =1&_r=1&hp

Read this article this morning, and it rung true with some of my suspicions.

I began taking propecia in December of last year, and used a full three months of the prescription up. As I didn't want to fill another 300 dollar prescription I decided to order generic 5 mg fincar online from evopharmacy, and it was dirt cheap, as I'm sure many of you have found and done as well.

9 months later, my hair has deteriorated considerably, and the 1/4 pills I was taking did nothing to clear up the inflammation that propecia was able to. The constant irritation and dandruff was as bad as losing the hair.

I finally decided to take an entire pill once I noticed that they didn't taste nearly as strongly bitter as the old propecia pills used to taste. The entire pill has cleared up my inflammation almost completely. However, I fear, as the article suggests, that the drugs are adulterated (they seem rather obviously weakened) by unknown substances. One of the adulterants cited was cement powder.

I am not claiming that all cheap generics sold by international pharmacies without prescription are counterfeits, but I will say that my personal experience and now reputable reporting confirms that if this situation was a little too good to be true, it probably was. Be careful, guys. Even if you don't put stock in my experience, read the report on fake and counterfeit drugs.

All the best to all of you.

I've had the same suspicions for a while not about the dutasteride that i've been ordering from an online pharmacy. I read this article this morning as well and I am only more reassured that the drugs I receive from hong kong are fake.

Any and all drugs are subject to being counterfeited. These guys can duplicated drugs with great sophistication. A pharmacist can not tell the difference between a fake propecia pill and a real one. It would take lots and lots of testing to find out. Its like the battle between virus writers and anti virus software writers. There is no way to know you cant tell if it is. Buying from a brick and morter pharmacy despite the expense, and hassle significantly reduces your risk of getting fakes.

here is my story

i bought proscar from united back in september and cut it into 4ths for that month.

at the end of september, my scalp started feeling REALLY itchy, the itch that i felt b4 i starte dpropecia a year ago.

i threw the proscar away and started propecia again. within 3 days the itch subsided.

i am still not sure if it was the drug or ifi had an allergic reaction to something else that caused the itch, but i did not want to take the chance.

Anyone else have issues with United Pharm? I just received a shipment of Finpecia a few days ago (Cipla) and to me it does not make any sense for anyone to counterfeit a generic. Comments?

I just started taking finpecia this week that I ordered form United. I feel the same as always. In the past I've taken Merck Propecia from the local pharmacy and generics ordered from United.

I have been on finpecia and finast from UP for over 8 months now. I have yet to see any difference, my hair continues to shed and losing in crown and hair line. I am hoping that this soon stops. I do not think it makes sense to conterfeit these really cheap drugs. It makes more sense to counterfeit actual proscar and propecia. These generics are SO cheap it's not even funny. You can get finpecia pill for 7 rupees a piece, that's less than .50 cents. If you counterfeit the drug to make it look EXACTly like finpecia, finast, fincar... then do you realize how much that would cost? You would also need to mimick the packaging which looks sooo much like the packaging shown on cipla and dr. reddy's site.

This is just my analysis. I could be wrong. I hope I'm not wrong, and hopefully my hair eventually stops shedding as much.

I've basically just maintained with the finasteride. My crown seems to getting a little thicker lately, but I think that's from the minoxidil foam I started using, I'm about to finish off my third can.
