Propecia NEVER stops hair loss?

Ive gotten the impression from some that propecia DOESNT stop hair loss, but merely slows it down to varying degrees. Also - some have said that it stops working after a few years. Are either of these things true?

No one knows for sure because every human being reacts differently to the medication.

But

a) I thought the statistic was that 80% plus STOP losing hair
b) That it would continue to block DHT reception forever.

a) Yes, that's true. But as far as I know only people with mild to moderate male pattern baldness were included in the study. They could stop it for the time span of the study (5-7 years).

b) Yes Finasteride doesn't stop working in terms of inhibiting the enzymes that convert T to DHT. But there is always remaining DHT ... enough to kill follicles that normally have to be dead for 5 years.

The 80% number is reported by the distributor but I believe there was bias within that work.
The medication is not a miracle drug and comes with risk and a cost. However, it is clearly the best treatment option (in my opinion) for those who are interested in slowing down, stopping and/or potential reversing their hairloss.
Look around this website and research the drug.

So if eventually it stops working, or it actually may never even stop it at all, then you should never really have much of a hair transplant other than on th ebasis that you will be a NW7?

I mean... Seeing as it may well stop working at some point, or seeing as it may never fully halt the hair loss - but merely slow it, one might say that having a hair transplant is a bad idea as you could well end up as a NW7, with an unsuitable hairline.

hair transplant is the absolut last resort... i personally will NEVER have one... each to their own, but a woman will always prefer a confident balding guy than a vein man obsessed with an extra 1000 strands of hair.

On the topic however... Propecia has worked for me for the last 3 years... i think i had more hair at one stage than when i started... stopped it for 4 months... lost some... back on it now and getting better again. Its GOOD, full stop.

Been on Propecia for 4 months. My hairloss on the crown has stopped completely and my crown is starting to fill in. Well worth the cost in my eyes.

My focus is always on my frontal hairline. My Crown i recall years back looking at and thinking... "sh*t its going" now i look at it and its thick... i mean thick. So despite me not analysing this area, there is no doubt that Proscar has done wonders there... and worked quite well on the front.

I'm a veteran finasteride user. Been on propecia for 5 years now. Although my dermatologist thinks it as done a lot of good. I personaly see that it has only slowed down the process. My hair line is still going to sh*t, and the hair on top, still thinning.

well, that wasnt my point... i've lost my hairline within 3 months of finasteride use.. and those that went to the same process recovered..
