I noticed on the propecia timeline it says hair should stop falling out at month three. I have been using it for almost four months now and my hair is still falling out like crazy. Does this mean im not a responder? Has anyone seen a reduction in loss after four months? It seems like most successfull posts the people see decreased loss right away.

At 6 months ...

Patients may see new hair growth.

At 12 months ...

Patients have completed the recommended trial period and may see improvement.

NedFlanders replied to my note and noticed hairloss stop at 4 weeks.

The question is you may still be seeing loss but is the new growth replacing it increasing quicker than the loss?

I've only just started on Finpecia. Number of hairs lost each day is small onl about 20-30 yet over 6 months i've lost my hairline and 50% over rest of front vertex..I can only put it down to no new growth I hope on Finpecia there will be regrowth when hair comes out. I would love to see small new hairs anywhere..Hope you have that now after 4 months

The majority of the opinions from posters here will tell you its a shed and to wait it out. I guess i agree due to the "in the long run what do you have to lose" argument. I started a post a while back that might help:

I doubt that. finasteride takes at least two months to do anything. It probably was just a coincidence.

Nope. I stopped shedding within the first few days of taking finasteride, completely. And I haven't shed significantly since. So to every rule, there's more than one exception.

good point, no two people are the same so people will react differently to the treatment, you can't pinpoint a shed, regrowth to the day...its just ridiculous.

The exact same occurence for me. Immediate halt of hairloss for the first couple months. But unfortunately, alot of shedding periods (even now at month 12)

finasteride also stopped my shedding during the first month. I shed a lot for 5 straight months after that. It sucked.

So do you thing it is too early to guage success at 4 months. I feel like this is my last and only hope. I have been shedding alot and am starting to get thinner than ever up there. I hope this stuff kicks in soon. I just feel like I should see something by now.

Hey JayBear thank for the response your prior post helped. Looks like about month 4 I should see something. Sheds seem to be what I am seeing. But maybe thats good. Good luck.

I just noticed that on their website they consider baseline to be 6 months in. So in 5 years 65% of men have more hair than when they were 6 months in to treatment. Looks like you can hope t be protected after around 6 months.

What?? I never knew that! That's pretty disappointing (and a little deceptive, if you ask me). Baseline should be what your hair looks like the day you pop the first pill.

I'm glad I didn't know this four months ago when I started taking Propecia. If I had, I probably would have been on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I'm a little more relaxed now about my shedding, but at the time I thought my hair was going FAST. I would have guessed that my "baseline" six months down the road would be BALD.
