Hello everyone, I stumbled across this site a few days ago and it has been an education for me. I am 22, and my hairline is receding, my hair has thinned out a lot at the temples. Propecia/finasteride seems to be highly regarded by a lot of people, but I was looking at their website and it says...

PROPECIA was developed to treat mild to moderate male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head) in MEN ONLY. There is not sufficient evidence that PROPECIA works for receding hairlines at the temples.

The last sentence really worries me. Would you recommend it? Has it worked for you? Like all of you I am worried and would be grateful for any views. Thanks.

I grew back 10 years worth of slow frontal receeding with propecia. I noticed it starting to work within a week. Sounds amazing, well it is.

Unfortunately the sides are unbearable. Libido, erection, mental alertness, happiness, concentration all suffered immensely. As well my face lost all its sheer and looked literally 10 years older. I am now quit and most of this is gone but its only been a week. Oh yeah and some gyno, that was fun. Its gone now tho.

This is some hardcore shite but it truly works wonders. Give it a try and hope that you are not one of the unlucky ones. I have no idea how some peoples bodies can handle this drug with no sides.

Good luck

i have a receding hairline, so i gave propecia a try its been 3months i haven't had any side effects so im not worry about that anymore. just hoping i can see some improvement in my temples in 6 months or in 1 year....

only 2 % off people get side effects, plus if you stop taking the pill they will go away.

like G K said give it a try and hope that you are not one of the unlucky ones.

Oh yeah my side effects started around the 5 month mark. Right when all my hair grew back. Big bummer.

Well I'm currently weening off. I just made my own mix of topical finasteride, and I will give that a try...However I think I will get the same sides and have to give up too. Its such an awful feeling being on finasteride. You feel sooo dead, and you look it too. And no you wont know in 2 months if you get sides. Like I said it took me 5 months before they crept on it, and it seems everyone is different in regards to sides. You must understand that finasteride is used to shrink the prostate, and it lowers the serum levels of DHT in your body, which is reponsible for many functions in your body. Its a hell of a drug! Just keep an eye out for sides if you are brave enough to risk your manhood for hair! I will say that the treat definately works miracles for hairloss.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have got some Finasteride 5mg tablets, but am I right in saying people recommend 1mg? They are blue, really small ones. They are circular with F5 written on them. I am not sure if I could cut them up evenly. Would 5mg be too much?

Also how important do you think the shampoo you use is? Should I look at a generic thickening shampoo or is Nizoral the only available one? Thanks again, really appreciate it.

My cousin bought them a while back but never used them. Where would you recommend Nizoral from? I can't find it in any shops.

I have been using Rogaine foam on the hairline and temple points for about 3-4 years twice a day religiously. Don't expect any miracles but it really does STOP you from receding any further. If you're lucky you might even gain a little bit.
