I had the same story with my Doctor once Mr. Telogen, he had to pull out the book of preventive medicine to read about Propecia!!! The prick has a pretty full head of hair and wouldn't give 3 phucks about hairloss, so when he was writing the prescription, I said: "Gimme that!" LOL... Have to go back to pick up prescription for refills 4-6 in about 30 days. I am not looking forward to seeing him about hairloss again.

New on Propecia - strong side effects

Hi All,

I just wanted to share my 'short' experience with you. I started to take Propecia (Finasteride - 1mg) a couple of days ago and boy... it struck me like hell! Let's say I wasn't expecting the side-effects to be so strong. The second day I started to have testicular pain, musles acking, strong head ackes, and noticable increase of libido ???... but I haven't quit yet - I WANT MY HAIR BACK!

Maybe half the dose (0.5 mg / day) would be enough for me - I cannot imagine what it would be if I had to take Proscar (5 mg) ... that would kill me probably. For your information, I'm 28, in good shape and I'm not taking any other medication of any kind.

For me Finasteride is the last step before having hair transplant. I just hope those side effects are precursor of POSITIVE results.

P.S. I don't want to discourage anybody from using it. It might not affect you as much as it did/do to me. You cannot say until you try it and if you want YOUR hair, this might be an 'answer' to your prayers. I guess it's just not for everybody.

Cheers!

After only two days? common.

I kid you not! The second morning I took Propecia, testicle aches started... and I mean aches! Symptoms have stabilized ... but remain. Like I said, I haven't quit yet but plan to reduce to 0.5 mg instead of full 1 mg. I guess I fall in the category of those who responds quickly to that medication... and it is powerful medication.

My doctor told me that side effects with Propecia were much more common that what reported by studies. I found that a little bit disapointing. But I said I would try it, I'm trying. Taking of medication is an "empirical" process: you try, you see, you adjust and repeat the cycle.

I don't want to frighten anybody

I had the aches too but at eight weeks.

In order to re-assure people, my case is probably an exception, I don't know. I'll try the 0.5 mg to see if the symptoms decrease.

How long did your aches last? I whish that could go away ... soon.

Cheers!

About four or five weeks.I guess everyone is different. It's amazing how some can down a 5 MG tab every day and not get any side effects.

Reduced to half the dose

I reduced the dose to 0.5 mg and the side effects decreased dramatically. Although I feel better, I question the "efficiency" of 0.5 mg vs 1 mg of Finasteride. Am I just wasting my time? Or is 0.5 mg "almost" as effective as 1 mg as reported by a study? Maybe I should stick to the full 1 mg and cope with the side-effects?

Question: When is the sheding suppose to stop when you start taking Propecia (average)?

tricomin or nomin at all?

hey guyz! long time since i started my whining on these boards.

9 months (no, i'm not pregnant) on propecia now, can see some blonde hairs (probably hairs that i already had but invisible to the eye, now gaining color. or me turning dumb.) poppin out. hair growing longer than months ago, too. no real thickning yet.
so, for you to understand what stage i'm in now (actually, since i started taking Propecia), if *all* the hairs on my thunderdome (mad max 4 is on the way - i got a lot of tiny ones) grew thick and long, i'd be fine! just a case of difuse thining, see. hair loss stopped at the *first week* so, just waiting for thickning, not so much of regrowing (although i could take that as a man, as well =)).
so, do you guys advise me to wait a full year, year and 1/2 or use tricomin to get these bastards to ERECT? i wear my hair buzzed to 0.5, does the skin absorbe well the tricothing? not into gettin minoxidil dependent. just anphetamines and alcohol =). nah really, would sincerely appreciate your advice, guys.
takin photos of cheap girl models (and my hair progress too) and keeping fingas crossed, this is the home cat that one day, just went astray...
thanx lots, take it easy. hug*

You did not say how long you have been on Propecia. If I were you I would wait at least one year if not more to start minoxidil because once you start it you are kinda stuck with it. I wish I had waited, but I had Telogen Effluvium in addition to male pattern baldness and really had to use it to halt the Telogen Effluvium.I recently started to only do PM apps because my Seb Derm is very very bad. I even have the stuff on my face. Not a nice thing to live with I tell you.
