No more question.

Just spoke to Doctor.I have a 3mm nodule In my left nip.Wants me to go to his office and talk to a surgen thursday and possibly have a biopsy. He said he will give me a script for Arimidex.I explained that a biopsy is not needed as I know what the hell it is.The ultrasound picked it up and the mammogram did not and he does not know why.I'm one very unhappy camper at the moment.Very unhappy.

Don't worry T. Everything's gonna be okay. Just keep excersizing and eating healthy. If the case comes that you do need surgery, your body will be in perfect condition to withstand a simple operation that will get you better off for the future. However, I don't think you will need to be cut open. Might just be a simple case of decreasing your hormone-altering drugs... GULP!...yeah... Propecia. :|

Results with Propecia on FRONTAL and TEMPLE Hairloss

What have been most ppls results on frontal and temple hair loss with propecia?

I have been on for about 9 months or so.. and it seems to work well for the back of my head, and for the middle front hairline.

However, i still have the horseshoe pattern goin' on. ( the temples)

Has anyone had good success with JUST propecia in the frontal / temple region?

Does Propecia work in stages?

Its about my 9th month on propecia. I never had much hairloss on my vertex or crown prior to the treatment, but i must say that area is looking better.

however, my frontal region still sux. which brings me to my question, does propecia work in stages? I.E takes care of the vertex, then crown , then front?

( a back to front success )

thx

SCARED! Hey everyone, I think I'm gonna take the Propecia plunge this week and I am terrified!! I got my testosterone/estrogen/DHT levels checked to get a baseline and I have propecia script too...been carrying it around in my wallet for a couple weeks now...just stalling I guess. My temples have slowly been receding over about 4 years and now the middle of my hairline has been miniturizing with lots of tiny tiny velluous hairs. It's getting harder and harder to cover and getting more thinned out. I have been on minoxidil 2% 2x / day for a little over a year now. I have had some success in the temples with a dense covering just not growing that much. I started using revivogen at the beginning of December and just recently stopped....just haven't heard good things and kinda wondering if it's actually causing damage...not sure though. I'm also taking L-arginine pills (3g/day) and a bunch of anti-oxidants plus MSM.

My hairline used to be defined and thick in the middle of the hairline and just the temples were receding. Now the middle is thinning and my hairline doesn't really have that much definition...just a mix of terminal and velluous hairs. I dred looking at my hair in the mirror after a shower. I also avoid looking in mirrors all day.

Well I am terrified about Propecia. Terrified in long run about having to stay on it and wondering what will happen if I have to go off, worried about side effects....and terrified in the short run about if it will work on my temples. I also don't know if I'm strong enough to go through sheds. If my hairline has bad sheds I will be devastated....I already feel so down when my hair looks in bad shape which seems more often. I just loose all motivating and feel extremely down. But then sometimes when my hair doesn't look that bad I suddenly feel life back in me and motivation. Tomorrow I'm going to get a haircut and I hate going there. I dred the anticipation of looking in the mirror afterwords, when my stomach drops and I feel kinda sick...but maybe that will give me the motivation to just go to the pharmacy and get it.

I think I'm going to split Propecia into two 1.25mg / 2 = .6125 mg per day. My life has been going so well in all other areas and when those times come when I feel like maybe the hairs not so bad I feel great about everything else in my life. Well I'll definitly keep everyone posted. I guess I just need some strength from this forum.

Heh, don't worry...just check it yo. If it doesnt work, then it doesn't work...if it DOES work, then you will have your reason to stay on it. Chances of side effects are minimal, and you're doing yourself an injustice by not trying it. I'd also say switch to 5% minoxidil.

Medicines won't work if you don't try 'em.

I continue to insist that Saw Palmetto has done something good for my hair. When I added it to my Propecia 0.5mg regimen, my daily shed count seemed to seriously decrease, as if it would have some influence in the androgen receptors directly affected by DHT, while Propecia was inhibiting it... Interesting.

Could someone give me an idea about how propecia actually works. I have read the spiel on the websites etc, but I would like to know how it has worked for other people.

I have been taking it on its own for nearly 5 months, and my shedding continues. I have gone from a norwood 1 to 2, which is annoying and my scalp has suffered with seb derm. What is it with the sweaty smell ? is that the sebum ? Anyway, it's getting better with zinc shampoo.

What is supposed to happen, and what has happened for those who are just on propecia ? Should the hairs I have lost since taking propecia grow back as thicker non-DHT hairs as the official info says, or will I just grow back thinner hairs ?
When does that usually occur ?

I will consider taking minoxidil to hopefully grow back some thinner areas after the propecia stabilises the hair loss. I just don't want anymore bother at the moment.

f***, it's a stressful job

I've started taking Propecia 75 days ago. 1 tablet each day (forgotten to take it only 3 times).

I can't say that I noticed more hair falling out after I've started taking propecia, but, on the other hand, my hairline has thinned dramatically in the past 75 days. For the first time people are telling me that I am balding.

Since I can't seem to find any explanation as to why the loss of DHT should translate to loss of hair, I must conclude that my hairline would have receded anyway (just not so soon, without propecia) and since propecia just enhanced the speed of the hair cycle, I lost the frontal hair very quick, but it doesn't mean that it wont grow back with higher thickness and/or density. My theory is that without propecia, I would have kept my frontal hair for several months more, but eventually, when it would have fallen, it wouldn't have grown back, ever.

Hrmmmmm...that's interesting XL..I think I might go pick me up a 30 day supply of saw palmetto just to see if it works...couldn't hurt me none.

:pulls medical dictionary outta ***:

Ok, here's how Finasteride works.

Hair follicles are (theoretically), if susceptible, affected adversely by the male hormone Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. DHT is created when Testosterone comes into contact with the enzyme 5-Alpha Reductase. Propecia or Proscar (Finasteride) inhibits the production of I BELIEVE the second form of this enzyme, 2-5 Alpha Reductase (might be the first form though), the more prevalent enzyme found in the body. By eliminating one combinations of DHT production, the body's serum levels of DHT will plummet to either a nominal level, or a deficiency of the hormone. In MOST cases, the levels will attain a low, but safe serum level of DHT, but the exception can and does occur...generally bringing about sexual inadequecies and lowered libido. However, the effects will (in most cases)subside after cessation of the drug.

Maintenance or slowing of hair loss is almost guaranteed, and in most cases, improvement occurs. It's prolly best to team this with minoxidil and a good anti-inflammatory shampoo.

Hope I was scientifical enough for yahs! :D

The one recommended on the bottle for healthy prostate:

160mg x2 a day. Your body will tolerate it in about 2 months. You can then take a 2-3 week break and then start all over again. It will have a brand new effect once again for another 2 months. People freak out when they hear about the human body's tolerance to drugs. Little do they know that there is a reset button called 'taking breaks' after a given period of time of using any chemical, drug, vitamin, mineral, or herb. Check it!

I used saw palmetto for years for hair loss. In my experience, it was worthless but it does do wonders for your prostate gland!!!!!!!

Yea no doubt about that. Perhaps it is effective in conjunction with a DHT inhibitor and growth stimulus...since it's a mild anti-androgen.

I got the 250 capsule 80mg standardized version...with 95% fatty-acids. Is that the right one? Man, some VILE smelling stuff it is!
