Im 18, and today is the day ive been diagnosed with male pattern baldness. I've been prescribed with a 3month supply of Finasteride 5mg 28x3 tablets for just £8.87, (Private prescriptions have been lowered in price unk: ) of which im meant to be taking once a day. But I swear i only come across propecia dosages of 0.75mg-1.25mg a day for hairloss, should i devide my tablets before taking them or should i go with taking one 5mg a day?

5mg a day @ 18 years old is pretty aggressive. Personally I would quarter those and dip down to 1.25mg. I went with .5mg a day for 3 years and maintained and even regrew hair on the crown.

Another thought is "If you start at the highest dose...then what is there to go to once the effectiveness of the medication starts to wear off?"

Thanks for the reply, although these tablets are so small, even thinking of cutting them into accurate tenths for a .5 dosage is a myth lol. On the back of the packaging it says 'Tablets should not be broken or crushed' i cant see myself getting a clean cut through without destroying it, is there any tool used to accurately divide the pills?

The reason it says not to crush or cut them is because they can be harmful to a male fetus if a pregnant woman would absorb it through her skin. I had 1mg pills and halved them using this from Wal-Mart (hopefully you live in the states)

If not, then check amazon or some other online retailer.

Also, don't cut out a month's worth of pills. The coating on them protects them from moisture. I would just cut one pill at a time. They'll absorb moisture if they sit there for a month, and I feel like that might limit the effectiveness of them.
(No scientific reason behind it, just my general feeling)

The previous reply is absolutely right. I would definitely NOT start out taking 5mg a day. I would take 1.25mg by cutting them into 1/4ths. This can be done with one of those small razors you can get at your local hardware store. I also agree that trying to cut them any smaller than 1/4ths isn't very practical either. Best of luck.

don't take 5mg a day. your brain will explode if you take that much at 18. i started just before i turned 19 and am seeing some results just 4-5 months in from 1.25mg/day. quarter them and forget about it. that's what i'd say.

Cheers for the advice guys, got myself a pill cutter from boots, cutting the tablets into sixths for the mean while. For the first few days i had this constant 'blue balls' feeling which got me pretty worried but thats gone now which is relieving, probably just my balls getting used to the new testosterone levels haha. But yeah i will update you guys when i see results, if all goes well i will stick with it till it wares off then transfer my routine to CB 03 01/RU
