Hi all, new to forum and thought i'd leave my 2 cents. Been on proscar for about a year and a half and have maintained well on the crown. The best part was the elimination of the bad *** itch i used to get on my temples. I think proscar has even slowed down my frontal thinning some, and my forehead has become less shiny(less sebum?). I get sheds every few months but overall density always improves.

I've heard reports like this from some people on this forum. I wish it were true in my case, but my head will always itch :( . Do u take proscar brand or generic? Take 1/4's or 1/5's?

I agree, I noticed I used to get an irritating itch in my thinning areas and since taking proscar the itching stopped, I came to the conclusion that it was the DHT attacking my follicles

it did the same trick for me as well... the itching sometime got ridiculous on the thinning areas, it has gone down alot 2 months after I started finasteride.

Hmm. Im not on propecia but I have that blasted itch. I never knew what it was but I tried saw palmetto and it made that go away for like 4 months. I got sexual sides so I just dropped it and vowed id try propecia since I think I trust a real prescription over some unregulated thing like that. Im not sure though thats my problem or not.

My question is did any of you guys get that itch all over even in places not thinning? I seem to get that itch mostly in areas of thinning like the crown right where i see slight miniaturization, but I get it once in a while in the very back or somewhere thats supposed to be resistant to dht. Did you guys have white oily flaky dandruff type stuff? I do and like most others no shampoo ever gets rid of it Ive been to 2 derms like 6 times trying different shampoos and what not nothing ever helped except saw palmetto back when i tried it.

i'm taking proscar cut into 4. Yeah, had the itch for months before noticing hair loss; particularly in the temple area. Am also using nizoral 2 percent and it definately helps the dermatitis and excess oil buildup as i have oily skin and scalp, lucky me :dunno:

Damn, this is what I was hoping to experience. It's been almost 7 months for me on propecia and my scalp (thinning area) itches just as much as it did before I started the medication. I'm afraid this is a sign that finasteride is just not working for me... :sobbing:

The thing im worried about is there is some but very little history of male pattern baldness in my family. I just worry the itch is from seb derm and totally unrelated to dht and that taking propecia would just be a big expense, and a large risk for nothing. I want to think its male pattern baldness but my head itches around the ears and in places that fit the description of seb derm so I think it may be that. Unfortunately seb derm really has no treatments but its possible dht is related to it somehow.

Thats strange, I have had incredibly bad stinging and itching around my ears, along with the rest of my head, for years. Propecia, T-Gel, and Nizoral all help.

Sometimes, my ears used to burn so badly, they almost felt numb, like I was stung by a bunch of bees or something, they were bright red all the time and felt like ice cubes rested on them (ouch).

All around the ears was incredibly itchy, along with the back of the neck, hairline, vertex, temples, etc.

There was also considerable diffuse pattern loss, even along the ears.

My itching was around the temples and areas where I was receeding, no where else, this is why I assumed it was the DHT attacking my follicles
