question about buzzing hair

im really considering buzzing my hair fairly short for spring/summer. Since i have thinning all over the top of my head, including my existing hairline, would this just make my hairloss look worse, and/or make my hairline look further back?

but will all my thin hairs behind my hairline still show up fine? like there wont be any signs of thinning past the definite hairline?

I generally wear a 3 blade cut as well... out of curiosity, do any of you clip your own hair? Even though it seems simple to apply the clipper to the hair and hack it down, I see a stylist because they seem to do some hand-trimming in certain areas of the head to, I suppose, blend it in or perhaps thin some areas out.

Are these stylists just doing the extra hand-cutting to justify going to them? By using a 3-blade on your own head, is it possible to get a good haircut to be confident about?

I just buzzed my head for the spring.. My hair grows and apparently sheds really fast around this time, spring, in preparation for summer. I found myself obsessing over my hair especially because it was getting very long. i couldnt study and i kept playing with it and pulling on it. so i buzzed it. I LOVE it.

granted, i dont want to always have the shaved head, but its a cool change. Plus, i love when its growing back and it looks really thick because its still short, but long enough to be styled. If youre gonna do it, do it NOW so that by the summer time, if you dont like the way you look, it will have grown back out and you wont have to worry.

mine is this length, i used a 4 extension:

but how bad is your hairloss JayB? Cause im still in highschool and a NW3 with diffuse thinning (and blonde hair). Cassin, how will the balding be more obvious? will people notice all the "thin spots" or just the receded hairline?

thanks

Don't worry about the blondeness. Blonde hair shows less scalp, best thing I ever did was bleach my hair (apart from the fact I looked a proper arse bandit)

As for shaving it, no people won't see the thin spots cos every single hair on your head will be cut down to the same length. Unless you have a massive slick bald crown, then they might notice it. They might see the pointy widows peak at the front though, but before I did a buzz cut people knew I was just pushing my hair forward at the sides anyway so it looks a lot better then a silly comb-over style.

I shouldn't worry anyway cos if you're still at high school, I doubt anyone your age will know what a receding hairline is anyway.

When I first did mine I was shocked that I could then see how large an area had thinned... I did it to a grade 2....

so then I thought bugger it and did it to a 0... no guard, lowest setting, it's just like sandpaper rather than hair and it looks really cool, no-one can tell.... people always ask me why I never grow it back, they just can't tell when it's that short

as you're blonde you may get away with having it bit longer a 1 or a 2 maybe

Naw. I just go to a salon and drop $20.

Absolutely...best thing I ever did.
If you're thinning and think letting it grow longer will hide anything you're fooling yourself and no one else.

I keep mine buzzed weekly with a #1 trimmer. I use a cordless Conair trimmer. Get them at Wal Mart.
I use a hand-held mirror to trim with back neck line.

After a little practice you'll be an expert at it and wonder why you waited so long. I've been doing my own buzzing for about 20 years.

Banned from HLH or got tired of regrowth?

Lol....neither

I was on Get It Back's website.
http://www.getitback.us/

The main premise of this site is shampooing and the ingredients in shampoo (SLS) cause hairloss.
It was a great site for about the past 2 years but due to multiple problems the site has fizzled out I'm sorry to say.
The admin of the site has been off of shampoo for 10+ years now and will be posting photos of what he claims will be full regrowth.

I actually believe there is much truth in what he says but I don't want to wait 10+ years for full regrowth therefore I have my topical regimen.

There are several members here on gourmetstylewellness.com that have migrated from Get It Back. You can see our little family reunion thread on the category "Tell Your Story", topic "balding mailman".

So, tell me, if shampooing cause hairloss why we loose hair only in the top and not in the entire head?

I've been clipping my own hair for almost a year now. It took some practice, but I actually think it loooks better when I go to the salon and get it done. I think perhaps because I actually take a lot of time to do it as opposed to those hair cut factories where they rush you in and out. I usually keep the sides one guard shorter than the top or sometimes I'll use two different guards on the sides making it ever so slightly longer as you move up and it sort of blends in that way. The toughest part is clipping around the ears and neck, but again with practice it becomes easier. I can actually shape my neckline quite well now with a couple mirrors and a steady hand. (don't attempt after a night of drinking) But to answer your question, yes, I believe one can cut their own hair just as well as getting it done by someone else.

I don't claim to have all the answers, only most of them. :D

Some guys actually do lose most of the hair on the sides also. The link I provided has the admin of the site who was one of those guys with just a fringe of hair around his head and now he claims near full regrowth from no shampooing for 10 years. I am waiting for his pics to be posted.

It's possible that more effort is used to massage shampoo on the top of the head than the sides.
It is claimed by some that hair on top of the scalp is genetically more sensitive to chemicals.

Another thought....why do transplants grow and not die off?

Many guys experience transplant balding after several years. WHY?
They continue to shampoo.................

I just don't buy the shampoo theory. What about the large proportion of men who never experience male pattern baldness? Presumably they aren't all reluctant to wash their hair. What about women? What about baldness in history, before shampoo use became widespread?
