question about diets and hair loss

Hello everyone,

I have a question on dieting and hair loss vs natural genetics.

So about 5 months ago i started a diet, pretty strict, about 1400 calories a day, ate healthy but probably not enough vitamins.. about a month ago I kind of noticed my hair was thinning the the front. When I part my hair in the middle you can definitely see that its thinner/wider and gets to normal as I goes back. I also noticed that I see a lot more hair in the bath tub when I shower... I looked back at photos from the beginning of the year and can see a difference, not significant but noticeable.

Also went through a stressful event around that time too

So I stopped the diet recently and am just eating and taking vitamins starting..

Do you think because of the diet / stress my hair has weakened or am I just losing it... will it come back?

I read a lot of posts in various places recently about hair loss and timing for temporary and such but it varies too much.

I know I should see a doctor, I have an appointment in a week so I'll ask then anyways but wanted to get advice from others.

You must have the right amount of vitamins to ensure your body is working to its full potential. Biotin is always a good idea.

No relation between diet and hair loss. No relation between stress and hair loss.

You suffer from good old androgenic alopecia, except you seem to have the female pattern.

Thanks for the info. I read up a lot of it... Like stress and stuff so I at least wanted others opinions.. And see what's true or not...

Sadly it is what it is....

if you have a family history of hair loss, then you will be very likely to go bald yourself. It never hurts to have healthy diet and stress free life though.

Actually both of my parents families don't have crazy hair loss or anyone that is bald that I know of...

Obviously there's thinning in general and receding hair lines. But looking at them I don't recall any of them that are bald.

But I read a lot about diet and stress which was crazy for me a few months ago, just was trying to confirm if any of that is true and or if my hair will get better.

Thanks for the advice and info.

A crash diet can trigger telogen effluvium, which is marked by diffuse thinning throughout.

Normally, women can recover from this by correcting their diet. In men, though, telogen effluvium can kickstart androgenic alopecia for individuals for a genetically predisposed. This means that even if you remove the initial trigger (i.e. eating better or removing the extreme stress), the hair could have trouble growing fully as it is now being attacked earlier by DHT.
