Question about finasteride for UK peeps!

Hey folks,

My first post here but I won't belabour the point, been lurking for a while, decided it's time to join up.

25 year old guy, been 'slowly' (although it never seems 'slow') losing my hair since I was about 21, it's slightly creeping up at the sides and becoming noticeable.
I've been incredibly self conscious about it but I eventually plucked up the courage to go to the doctor and ask about finasteride after reading stories here with people having so much success with it!

The way I see it, either my doctor knows I have a problem with hair loss or in 2 or 3 years...everyone does.

Anyway I was prescribed a 2 month regime of finasteride~ just to get started (I'm well aware not to expect results for 6+ months) to test if i get side effects and so it doesn't cost me an army and a leg.

Anyway my question for people here in the UK is basically, what do you pay for finasteride, for a 1mg, 56 tablet prescription?

I've been to 4 different pharmacies today and 2 never had it, 1 had it in the wrong dose and finally lloyds pharmacy had it at £101.04 for a 2 month supply.
Now, I'm an idiot for forgetting to ask the other places how much it cost there, but ballpark, is that too much?
My Doctor seemed to think it'd be about half that.

Anyway, any input is welcome guys, thanks!

Hi,

That sounds a little bit expensive, i buy mine from Dr Fox website and its about £76.00 for a two months supply, and that includes consultation i think. It depends, if you want generic stuff then it is much cheaper, however if you want the merck version i guess it will be around £30-40 a month.

first off, congrats for taking the first step and jumping on finasteride :) big weight went off my shoulders when i started DOING SOMETHING about my hairloss.
on topic though, what about inhousepharmacy? the fincar on there is stupidly cheap and yeah everyone's a bit nervous about jumping onto getting stuff online but what all those scary tv ads don't tell you is that nobody in the biz is gunna be dumb enough to fake stuff which is this cheap. one guy even tested his fincar from inhouse and it came back positive, finasteride.

that's what most of us do anyway.

I pay £4.01 for a 4 month supply, (no typo there).

That's a legit prescription for 28 x 5mg tablets with the instruction to quarter them with a pill cutter.

I bought 2 months of Propecia for about £50 / month to begin with, but then I asked my pharmacist how much generic finasteride costs, saw my doctor and asked her to prescribe me the 5mg stuff instead and let me cut it.

Buying online is a fools game if you can get a proper prescription for next to nothing.

It's not available on the NHS no, but it can be prescribed as a private prescription. If he won't prescribe, go to another doctor (I actually saw a random doctor at my clinic for my 1st prescription simply because my GP was booked out).

If your clinic doesn't let you do that then ask for a referral to a specialist who should hopefully be able to prescribe it. It all sounds like effort but I think it's worth it for the saving in money and the knowledge you have a legit prescription.

im in the uk too and buy proscar from inhouse pharmacy and cut them like most people do - i started on merck propecia from boots but its a real rip off !

i had a lot of general regrowth when i first started so im sure they are legit , inhouse seem to have a pretty good rep on this forum so go for it and save a fortune !

Go to you local "Boots" they do a hair retention scheme, basically you see them every 3 months and they take photos (your choice) but you also pay for 3 months supply of propecia, its costs £90 for 3 months.

Im now coming to the end of month 4 with them, very happy so far :)
