question about my hairline

Hi everyone I'm new here and I have a question about these "thin" hairs along my hairline. They kind of worry me because they look thinner than my other hairs. I'm 24 and I don't remember them being like this when I was a teenager. It's more of a recent past 2-3 years thing they have developed.

Do these look natural?

No, they don´t look natural. They are the first signs of male pattern baldness. I know this sounds terrible, but it is the truth. Your only hope so far is Finasteride which might help you to maintain your hairs. I am also 24 years and I have EXACTLY the same thin hairs at the center of my hairline. You can check out my pictures in my story. Good Luck!

yeah join the club -at least theres still some hair there so theres a chance they could regrow.its pretty unlikely on propecia alone though.

Don't let these guys get you nervous. Your hair is very thick otherwise and you have no signs of temple recession.... at your age it is completely normal to develp a "mature hairline". Yes, this is still caused by DHT, but does not necessarily mean you are heading into full fledged male pattern baldness. Many, many men develop a mature hairline in their 20's and it stays that way for years. I would see a dermatologist specializing in hairloss who can look at your scalp and determine if miniaturization is occuring elsewhere such as the top or crown...if so then, yes I would probably consider propecia as a preventative measure. For right now, I would definitely not worry as much as these guys would have you....and finasteride is not your only hope at the moment....you may not even have a problem. I think too many young guys in your situation start to panic and jump on finasteride when it probably isn't needed.....and it seems to me, these are the same ones that constantly complain of excessive shedding and sexual side effects and then post pictures of themselves with a head of hair most here would kill for.

beaner is right, but I would still get on finasteride and get proscar cut in 8ths and take it every other day. That is 1/16 of the generic price per month, or about $2 per month. You don't need much. Rogaine would or topicals would be over kill now and not worth the hassel. If you want to fight the mature hairline you can put some copper peptides in the very front, like 1/2mL every other day. They are not sticky like rogaine. The small finasteride dose will just make sure any resetion does go slow and does not sneek up on you over night. just look at the back and top of your head every few weeks so that does not catch you by surprise either.

Alright here's the worest pictures I could take. You never really know how bad things are until you take a photo of your wet hair with a flash. I don't think it looks this "bad" on everyday light.

Beaner thanks for the encouraging words. The first two replys scared the hell outta me.

I still stand by my words. To me this thinning is the first sign of male pattern baldness. Yes, it is true, you better ask a doctor, but do not hesitate. You can read the stories of many users. They all start like this: "I was losing hair at the age of .. but I ignored it for years." You are lucky, since you are not ignoring your hair loss and hence have a good chance of maintenance with Propecia. Sorry, if I scared you, but do not ignore your hair!

Good Luck!

All true, but if OP is even slightly worried about losing his hair, he should get on finasteride and doesn't need a derm to tell him that. That's all a derm could tell you to do anyway so if you need a prescription, then go to him, and forget about it.

There's no real reason to not get on finasteride, even solely as a preventative measure for the future, except for cost.

That looks like a pretty full head of hair to me. The hairline is the only thing that may be thinning slightly, at least in my eyes.

Thanks for all the responses. Even the scary ones, and I wouldn't have made a post had I not been scared in the first place. I appreciate all the feedback!

I know it's not a 100% sure fire way to decided whether or not you are going to go bald but my mother's father was bald by my age so that has me slightly worried. I'm 24 now and my hairline aint what it was at 16 but I've had these thinner shorter pieces in the front for about 2-3 years now. I guess I'll have to try to monitor things a bit closer.

just get on finasteride asap. it's the single best weapon you can have in your hairloss fight. better safe than sorry

Doesn't look too bad.

That little bald spot/balding line or whatever in the second pic isnt really a bald spot. A lot of people have one. Ive had one since I was 3. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Your hairline looks pretty rockin as well.

If there is something going on, its at the very very early stages.

And chances are, its all just normal, non male pattern baldness stuff :D

i mean, do you notice yourself losing more hair? thats the sign, otherwise you could just be having some natural hairline maturation

i agree with beaner and college chemistry student. the other guys seem to be over reacting.

For example, my dad had about that same hairline as you did at 25 (a little more receding like a norwood 2 approximately). Hes 58 now and is about a norwood 2.5. He started taking propecia a few years ago (supposedly thinning a tiny bit) but likewise, he kept his same hairline for decades.

And on your crown area/hair part: Thats not even thinning from what i can see. Its natural for your scalp to show when you part your hair lol. Look at any woman with her hair parted down the middle. You can see her scalp also. Does that mean she is "going bald". Obviously not. Many people have patterns along their hair or a specific direction/cowlick which the hair grows. Dont let these guys think your balding there.

I think the best way to judge is on the hairs diameter. If you have an area where the hairs are getting smaller in diameter than you have cause for concern.

You do sort of have a receding hairline but probably just average for your age.

Keep an eye on it. Take lots of pics (preferably with hair cut short) or in some fashion that you can monitor how fast it progresses. I alwways check my crown for the first signs of thinning. the moment that day comes im jumping on propecia immediatly. For the mean time im about like you with a slightly receding hairline.
