Question about shedd on propecia

I have began to take propecia againg for a week now and have noticed lots of shedding on not only the top of my hair but on the sides as well.
Has anybody else had shedding on the sides or could the propecia not be the right treatment for me?
I am new to this treatment, so I could really use some advice. I also started to use nizoral 1% this past week to get rid of dandruff from rogaine that I was using.

propecia often causes shedding, it may be a sign that it's actually working for you (the old hairs and being shed so the new can grow in). Also, minoxidil can cause shedding so if you just started using it, it may be a cause of the shedding as well, stick with it and the shedding goes away.

I've been though four sheds with Finasteride, and panicked every time!

Each time however, the hair has quickly grown back looking better than ever!

thanks for your response, that leaves me a bit more calm. Did you experience shedding on the sides as well? this has never happened to me before I started with propecia.
I stopped using minoxidil so I can see the effects of propecia working alone, also it left my hair in terrible shape the next day.

The shedding was (and continues to be) more or less from anywhere as far as I can tell.

As for the first shed, it's hard to say for sure as I kept my hair very short for the first 8 months taking finasteride. If you see lot's of hair falling out over about 4 weeks after taking finasteride for 3 months I think you're on the "about right" cycle.

You also might find the seasons make a difference too, I can't say for sure myself as it's not been long enough, but you might experience seasonal shedding twice a year.

This is a dumb question and i dont think its mentioned when you click on the word "shed" but it might be .. anyways ... when you say youre shedding ... is it that you physicallly see your hair getting thinner in some spots??? or you see alot more hair laying around like on your pillow and shower??? i never notice hair in the shower or on my pillow .. ( i have a dark pillow cover) (no drain cover in shower) maybe the hair is being washed down the drian before i see it?? ha i dont know but anyways ..

i ran my hands through my hair today for like 7 seconds just like messing it up over the sink and i saw a good 30- 40 hairs fell out ... #@$#@ this worries me! ... i dont know if this is a "shed" form Propecia or if its just how my hair has always been and propecia isnt working for me??

just some information:
I just started my 6th month of propecia the other day .. and since then my hair has gotten progressively worse in those 6 months .. but my hairloss has never been this fast .. with new thinning spots and what not so i am hoping that Propecia is finally starting to work for me and its a shed?? what do you guys think!!??! It is not normal for Propecia to cause shedding at any time during its use. Binding the type 2 5-alpha reductase does not cause a shift from anagen to telogen, so no shedding would be expected to occur. If shedding does occur, it is not a sign that finasteride is working.

if its not true that propecia causes sheds .. or not "normal" why is there so much talk about shedding while on propecia alone .. and the hair growing back thicker??? if its not true i dont think so many people would be talking about it and claming that its happening to them.

By shedding, I mean that for about 4 weeks at a time I will see a lot of hair in the shower, or on my brush or whatever. As far as I know, shedding happens to pretty much all of us, it's just that it's more noticeable when you are monitoring your hair all the time i.e. when undertaking a hair "growth" regimen.

As to the question about why I now have a female hair line: - Yes, I know, it's deliberate, use your imagination ;-)
(Hint - My regimen might yield more clues)

Do you think those drugs have helped your hair grow back because the regrowth is pretty impressive. You were pretty much an egghead when you started.

Are you going the whole hog and getting dismembered?

You'll grow most of it back that way without the need for drugs.

I'm very pleased at the amount of hair that drugs alone have restored, as you say, I was nearly completely bald on the top. As far as I can tell the results have been extraordinary; even though the new hair is noticeably thinner than the hair on the back and sides, it's getting thicker and darker and increasing in volume all the time (once the transplant heals I'll take some pics after an application of Nanogen, it's like I've never lost a hair using that stuff...).

I'm pretty sure that the other drugs have complemented the Finasteride. Even though my GP insists that the hormones and anti androgen won't restore hair, I can't think of any other plausible way that my treatment has preduced such dramatic results so quickly.

With regard to the surgery, I'm getting it *all* done.

Rough Timetable -
September '05 FFS (Rhinoplasty, chin and cheek re-structuring, brow boss shave and tracheal shave).

March '06 - Body Scuplting (Removal of bottom two ribs, breast implants, tummy tuck, face lift/chin tuck, hip and buttock implants.

October '06 - GRS (Vaginoplasty/castration and possibly some remedial cosmetic work to face & other areas)

My hair in the front and temples is much thinenr than it was 2 and half months ago before i got on propecia..my shedding is the same as before I started ..so why does my hair appear so much thinner?

Im thinking of quitting

Ive been on finastriede for almost a year now, and my hair is definitely worse than the time I started I don’t think its working for me.
My hairline is so F**ked up in comparison to last year and I don’t think any hair is being retained or controlled.
It become severely worse is this normal with a year on finastride

I think I should stop for a couple of months and see how it goes.
advice from anyone would be much appreciated.
