1. Do you still get morning wood? How often and is it as much as before finasteride?
I stopped getting about one year into finasteride. It started getting less frequent slowly so I'd hardly notice it. AFter 1 year I was not having any morning wood anymore at all and hardly any spontaneous erections throughout the day. It was almost impossible to get 100% hard overall. My relationship started to really take a hit from it.
After getting off finasteride it took around 2 weeks before I was having erections at night, every morning and throughout the day again. 100% firm erections again even though I was insanely scared I'd have irreversible sides.

2. Do you still have the same amount of semen when you c*m as pre-finasteride?
No. And still don't have that back in pre-finasteride state.

3. Would you say you have a high sex drive? (Be honest here please, I want to make an important decision based on this stuff). How often do you want sex?
When on finasteride I could go weeks without sex. It just wasn't on my mind at all. It took MASSIVE stimulation to develop some sex drive but even then I wasn't having 100% firm erections. I would sometimes force myself to j/o or have sex just to prove to myself that I could still do it.
Now I have crazy libido every day again.

4. I've heard stories of finasteride 'destroying the hairline'. Is/was there any sign of this for you?
No.

Like I said, I didn't notice anything at first. The changes came gradually and it took me really long before I even attributed them to finasteride. I thought it was "normal" at the beginning and thought it was just stress.

I would never ever mess with my hormones again. DHT is a male sex hormone and no hair loss hormone. It'd be naive to think all you get from blocking it is a stop of hair loss.

Are you still on finasteride? If not, when did you quit? Are your erections back to how they were prior to finasteride?

Thanks for the responses guys - keep them coming.

I think threads like this can help some people make their minds up on what to do about hair loss. It's all good saying 'studies show only 2% get sides' but when anyone is asked about finasteride use they always seem to have had at least some sides at some point.

I am keeping an open mind - If my hair loss really took a turn for the worse in a year or so and I was heading the same way as my dad (NW6), then I'd consider it but come off it immediately at the first sign of a side effect - even whether that was just minor ball ache.

This will sway people against finasteride...because the internet is home to 90% of the people who have had bad experiences, and only 5% of the guys who have had good ones.

3 years, symptom free, morning wood, normal sex drive. finasteride's saved my hair, and I'm completely happy with it.

I was on finasteride for nearly 2 years and the last couple months I've been on dutasteride. Since the beginning I almost always wake up with morning wood and sex drive has stayed relatively stable, some days it's low and other days high which is quite normal I think.

no, it wont. It will give people like me who already know that the results on the internet may be skewed slightly a much greater insight of how people who were simply using the drug and posting about their experiences on a hairloss forum faired. Nowhere else can you get ask these sorts of questions to people and get genuine answers.

and as for your answers - i think others have said this before - but you seem like the strongest proponent of finasteride on these entire boards and when you say 'symptom free', i have seen other posts of yours where you admitted that your sex drive was possibly lower but that it could be down to other reasons, and also where you said you have experienced some of the lesser sides in the past like ball ache. So, please - for the sake of others who are risking their health by making the decision whether to take the drug - post full and accurate answers.

This whole internet/ hair loss forum is skewed stuff is bullshit. There have been so many guys that LOVED finasteride suddenly getting hit with severe sides after years. Also, loads of guys that got started on it and the sides hit them straight away.

At the same time, I don't doubt that it works well for some people without causing major sides. That's why I'm interested in people's reports. I do think though that everyone gets at least some minor side effects. How can you not by blocking a powerful male hormone?

I also don't believe the extent to which people try to claim that the internet is skewed. Yes, it is skewed a bit but many many people just trial the drug and want to report their progress. They're not just always here because they have side effects and need to rant about it.

Multispeed - don't know if you will see this but i'm curious, when you talk about how you never get the semen volume back the same as it was before finasteride - is there a big difference before/after?

It seems from this survey that most of the guys with no side effects continue to get morning wood. This stopped for me when on finasteride. I recently came off it again and about 1.5 weeks later my sex drive is through the roof (like it was before finasteride). Morning wood is returning as well.

It makes me wonder if the problem is because of lower DHT, or because our bodies aren't producing more T to account for the slight increase in estrogen, throwing our system out of wack a little?

To answer the questions:

1) No I did not get morning wood while on finasteride. If I woke up at night sometimes I would have a soft erection, never the rock hard ones like before (and now after) finasteride.

2) It was a little more watery, but not enough to bother me.

3) Yes. Crazy high. Could go 4-5 times a day if I had no job and did nothing else.

4) No. My hairline continued to recede slightly for a bit, then it started to fill in. Finasteride definitely thickened my hair and made my hairline stabilize. I really don't like quitting it and I am debating whether to go back or not.

Was the rest of your sex drive/performance affected on finasteride or was it just morning wood? How long were you on finasteride?

Yep. I often wake in the night with a real stiff erection and need to pee. I have to kneel with one leg in the air and aim directly in the pot.

2. Do you still have the same amount of semen when you c*m as pre-finasteride?

Never noticed any change at all

3. Would you say you have a high sex drive? (Be honest here please, I want to make an important decision based on this stuff). How often do you want sex?

I pretty much want to have sex all the time just sadly not with my girlfriend. That part was a joke. Same as ever.

No. Started finasteride 3 years ago and no problems so far.

Has finasteride helped your hair much would you say? What Norwood were you before/after?

My sex drive was decreased but I'd still want it 1-2 times a day, but I didn't get nearly as horny most of the time. I didn't have total ED but it got to the point where it was difficult to get an erection without direct stimulation.

I was on it from May 2010 - January 2010, ran out for a couple of weeks but I enjoyed the explosion in sex drive so much I stayed off til early March. Then I started back on .25 mg\day, which worked pretty well, I had less sides, especially when I was taking it at night, but still no morning wood. Hair seemed to do ok on it too, but I ran out of my finpecia in august and I found an extra pack of proscar so I started at 1.25 again and noticed sides reappearing and being a little less sensitive in that area

I'm in the same boat as the original poster. Had a lot of questions and was a long time lurker of this forum. I first did a quick stint with finasteride back 5 years ago and only took the dosage cut into thirds. It was finpecia to be exact. I do recall not having any noticeable sides for about 2 months and only quit due to school costs being overwhelming. But, I recently placed an order on unitedpharmacy and plan to start a regimen over on the 0.5 dose and plan on sticking with it this time. I'll be sure to keep this forum informed on my journey as I don't want to go through it alone.

Thanks. That would be useful. I think the more people who do 'finasteride diaries' the better it is for other people considering the same thing.

So often, people say that finasteride side effects are overstated because only people with problems hit the forums - well if more people document their own experiences from the start of their finasteride use we will have a better idea of whether that is true.

From reading diaries like this i'd say the incidence of side effects is a lot higher than 2% unfortunately but i'd love to be wrong.

I haven't had morning wood since I started (7-8 months ago)

2. Do you still have the same amount of semen when you c*m as pre-finasteride?

I remember it being watery for a short while and recently going back to normal.

3. Would you say you have a high sex drive? (Be honest here please, I want to make an important decision based on this stuff). How often do you want sex?

I would say my sex drive is higher since I started on finasteride

4. I've heard stories of finasteride 'destroying the hairline'. Is/was there any sign of this for you?

My hairline has gotten a fair bit worse since starting. I still lose hairs, mostly bulbless and small bulbed, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'm quite worried and I wonder if I should take up rogaine or another topical supplement.....
