Question on minoxidil in the morning

I usually only use minoxidil once a day, cause I never have time in the morning to apply it. But I've got to make time for it. Is it alright to apply right when I get out of the shower when my hairs still wet? Also, my hair is pretty long, so will it be tough to style with minoxidil in it?

Try to dry your hair off as much as possible with a towel and you should be fine. Some have difficult times styling their hair with the greasiness of the minoxidil so 45min to an hour after ward is the best time to style since it has time to dry.

Also you could get some of Dr.Lee's minoxidil for morning applications (http://www.minoxidil.com) or 2% minoxidil for mornings. Lee's and 2% minoxidil both have 30% propylene glycol, which dries alot faster than the 50% PG in 5% minoxidil solutions.

I apply Lee's after my hair is dry and styled. Dries very fast and doesn't give my hair the AWFUL appearance most 5% solutions do.

If i remember correctly your in High School still so another option could be waiting to get you home applying it right away. THen waiting till you go to bed and applying it again.

Towel dry and application is fine. Dr. Lee's minoxidil dries all kinds of fast.

That is really good advice, Kramer. There is no rule stating that you HAVE to have your first minoxidil application upon waking up.

As for us forced to make our first minoxidil application in the mornings, here is the kind way to a successful minoxidil am. I learned this technique from Cassin, and it works great. So, here is a detailed description of what I will gratefully call the Cassin Technique for conquering the morning minoxidil dilemma:

Basically, when I get up I shower, towel dry my hair, (and apply the spironolactone to my temples and hairline area, but this is tangental to this discussion and does not apply to the non-spironolactone peeps).

Then, I micro a mug of water for my green tea, add sugar, and pick out what I'm going to wear. (by the way, I AM wearing a bathrobe while doing this so no, I am not a perv flasher.)

At this point, my hair is mostly dry but still has some moisture in it. I blow dry/style my hair completely and finish with a VERY light dusting of hair spray. I then get dressed, and micro my second mug of green tea.

By this time the hair spray has set and is mostly dry. I reach for the minoxidil, fill up the dropper, and then carefully WIPE the SIDES of the minoxidil dropper of all moisture on it. Using the dropper, I start from the back of one side of my affected area, carefully poke the tip of the minoxidil dropper through my styled hair until it touches the scalp, and let a droplet go. I do NOT rub it in, just let the droplet sit there so it can soak in. I continue dotting my hair, from the back of one side of the affected area to the front of the other side, randomly dotting my scalp with little minoxidil droplets, until the 1 ml has been successfully applied. I then stand motionless in front of the mirror for a few minutes to give the time for the minoxidil to set a bit. Any quick movements in these first two minutes, and it will drip. I use this time to apply my facial moisturizer and do a little facial grooming if needed.

Because the sides of the dropper were dried off, this really does nothing to affect the already dry and styled hairstyle I have done. I merely use the dropper to poke through the dry, styled hair and get the minoxidil to the scalp. The minoxidil might be wet on my head for another half hour or so, but the dry, styled hair above it obscures it from view.

By the time I arrive at the office it is dry. Do one more check in the rear-view mirror to make sure nothing has dripped down my forehead and I am out the door and ready to start the day. I'd honestly say that minoxidil adds no more than 10-15 minutes to my total get ready time in the morning, after discovering this technique. I even use this technique with normal 50% PPG Rogaine and it works. On days when I am in a rush, I use Dr. Lee's and can do it in 5 minutes.

The real art to this is, first off, drying off the sides of the dropper so that when you poke it through the hair, it does not stick to your styled hair and ruin your hairstyle... and second, being a little bit more deliberate and patient when applying the droplets.. take your time applying it, instead of applying 10 drops in 2 minutes, apply 20 droplets in 5 minutes. Get a feel for the dropper, and learn how to just squirt out just a little bit of it with each squeeze. Smaller droplets REALLY help prevent runniness and mess, and allow you to dot your hair more thouroughly so as to ensure excellent coverage, without rubbing it in with your fingers.

Believe me, this works. I used to be an am minoxidil slacker, but after doing this I am taking my minoxidil religiously each and every morning with ease. Try it, and let me know what you think.

Yeah... I buy pure green tea in bags. Microwave a cup of water, then drop in the tea bag and let is stew a bit. It is real, fresh-brewed green tea and much stronger than the bottled Arizona stuff. Not only that, but I can sweeten it as I like. The warm mug of green tea is an excellent substitute for the morning coffee I used to have in my previous, un-healthy life.

Now that Gardener is on the regimen, eating well, and in constant boot camp mode, even my morning caffeine is served in a healthy and anti-oxidant manner. I love it, love my new lifestyle. For any and all of you who are trying to break old routines and finally make healthier choices for yourself, let me tell you that it is SO worth it. They say it takes two weeks of repitition before new actions become habit, so make good choices for two weeks and you will get used to them. I have so much energy now, and the early-rising mornings as a finance professional are no longer dreaded, but glorious! I sleep so well after a great workout and a healthy dinner.

Sorry for going off on a tangent, but I just had to speak to this topic tonight.

minoxidil absorbs better in a scalp that was just damp.

True. Whilst I am careful and deliberate with minoxidil in the mornings, I apply a thourough 2ml coating of minoxidil in the evenings, and I do it 'old style'. I mean, right after getting out of the shower I give my scalp a good deep dunking in spironolactone and then dribble on a nice liberal 2ml of the real deal, 100% pure Rogaine, the original recipie, the real sh*t.

Your quite the well kept man.
Your my new role model. :woot:

Thanks, Kramer. I actually drew my inspiration from my Italian grandfather who ALWAYS taught me not to walk out the front door unless I looked my best. He told me, you never know what happens in the course of a day, and little things matter and it is not just a matter of looking good for chicks or such, it is a matter of personal pride in your presentation. He taught me the importance of keeping high personal standards, and the importance of being prepared for the unpredictable.

here is my morning minoxidil:
1 shower
2 towel dry my hair
3 minoxidil (i use it on my hairline and temples, i drop a small drop every quarter inch or so and make sure to pat each drop in well) while the minoxidil is still wet i style it a little, at least combing the hair in the direction i want.
4 rest of morning routine (shave, dress, eat, ect.)
5 before i leave the house last thing i do is either now add gel and style regularly, or i just comb my now almost dry hair with my fingers the way i like it.

i may be the only one but i like how my hair looks when the minoxidil dries after i styled it at this damp point. Once you get the hang of it the morning minoxidil is no big deal. Then again a few hours before you go to bed and your set.

Your Italian grandfather was a very wise man.
I'm as well trying to change some of my old bad habits and get into a healthier lifestyle. It sucks feeling tired and listless all the time! Every things coming around except my hairloss! Hopefully the minoxidil sheds end soon and the regrowth begins.

Do you find that using the dropper has worked better for you then the spray?? I've always used the spray and just lately have wondered how much of the formula actually penetrates my scalp.

Gardner,
I fully agree with your comment on green tea. I made the same change (from coffee to green tea) about two years ago, and I notice a remarkable difference in how much better I feel. I live in Korea now, as I've stated in previous posts, and quality green tea is really accessible.
Also, there's a free life expectancy calculator on this site:
http://www.livingto100.com
If you take the test, the results page indicates that according to research, tea drinkers appear to be in better health and on average live longer! That is because of green tea's potent antioxident effects in the body, which help prevent cancer. There was some other research done on smokers who drank green and black tea, and it appears that the green tea drinkers had fewer cancer causing toxins in their urine.
Good news.

Yeah, Kramer, my grandfather was quite the mack daddy pimp in his day. And a very successful man to boot, so while growing up I have always tended to give his advice more creedence, perhaps more so than my parents (but I would never admit it in front of them!) I wouldn't personally use the sprayer because it counteracts my morning strategy of avoiding contact of the minoxidil with my styled hair. I don't use the 'new' Rogaine dropper either. I think it's crap. I use the old style dropper, because it is easy to poke through the hair and get the chemical directly on the scalp.

Yardbird, I have also read about the benefits of green tea as well. I really enjoy it, have developed a taste for it and savor GOOD green tea as opposed to crap green tea. I suppose this makes me somewhat of a green tea snob? Nevertheless, I must admit that on occasion I really do enjoy an occasional cup of coffee. Especially on business trips when I have to fly overnight... when I wake up to sunrise at 40,000 feet and I smell the coffee wafting from the galley and it is just too tempting to not indulge. But, on a daily basis, I really look forward to my tea. You will hear some argument against the drinking of green tea from some on this board. Some contributors here have cited articles saying that significant doses of green tea can tip the testosterone/estrogen balance in a male body slightly in the estrogen direction. While this might be true in a lab rat, I personally think the dosage I take could hardly have an effect in isolation. All I can say is that on that I have also been on overnight flights and have woken up to the sunrise at 45K feet, and have very easily managed to screw my girlfriend silly in the lavatory in those early hours before the rest of my cabinmates have woken up. Hey, sorry to be crude, but morning wood happens at altitude just as it does on the ground. But, I just wanted to be balanced so I thought I would mention it. And this notwithstanding, few would argue the fact that it is jam packed with anti-oxidants.

Hair can be mildy damp while minoxidil is being applied, just not soaked as this will dilute the minoxidol solution.
