I'm thinking about going to my derm and asking for finasteride. I'm almost 18 and i really want to keep what i have going now because i really cant handle this sh*t. I just have a question. Lets say finasteride stops my hair loss for X amount of years. If my hair loss were to pick up again, would it be an accelerated loss? Or would i basically see the same speed of loss (or slower) that am seeing now? I read threads all the time about finasteride not working, but im just curious if when it stops working if it is like the stop loss you experience when stopping the drug. If tin this situation the loss is still slower finasteride would be worth whatever risk to me. Thanks for your time.

No, the best way I have seen it described is basically imagine putting a handbrake on your hair loss (or slow it down massively) by taking finasteride, then if you stop your hair loss will continue at the same rate it would as before you started taking finasteride, although I do believe any hair gains you have made from finasteride you do lose quicker.

I've been taking finasteride for about 5 years now and I have maintained with it after thinning out steadily for 5 years (16-21).
I did start using it when I was 18 but noticed lumps under my nipples, so I stopped for a few years. Honestly I don't know if it was due to the finasteride but it scared me enough to stop. No such problem now.

I think my question was misunderstood. I understand that propecia can mantain hair in some people, but what im asking is if when my genes start to win the battle over the drug will it still be a gradual process compared to a fast one(like if you quit taking finasteride)
