Hi guys,

I've got a quick question regarding Rogaine and (generic) minoxidil.

I've used Rogaine 5% previously, but for some reason, it causes extreme itching & redness to my head (and I mean irresistable itching). I know the main ingredient in Rogaine is minoxidil.

Now I was wondering if I would get the same problem/symptom if I was to use other generic mnoxidil lotions??

I was thinking of ordering some generic minoxidil from http://www.onlyhairloss.com or ebay, but was afraid that it would cause the same itchiness/redness.

** I've never used Nizoral shampoo, do you think it will eliminate the itch completely? **

I'd appreciate any replies. Thanks

Yeah I had severe redness and itchiness.

I learnt to ease off and allow the scalp to calm down. This meant not apply minoxidil in those spots for a night or morning. In the whole scheme of things, a night or two skipped isn't going to have any effect on your hair regrowth. What you want is a unirritated scalp.

Try giving the red areas time to calm down, it may be a few days. Then introduce small amounts of the minoxidil to those areas so that the redness stays at bay. You can increase the amount you apply to those areas gradually as you feel safe that you're keeping the redness at bay.

As for itchiness, I've found for me that Head and Shoulders shampoo and conditioner daily of a morning has controlled flakes. I use nizoral twice a week of an evening. I currently have no flakes, but if I skip the shampoo and conditioner for one day than I will have flakes on that day.
Hope that helps.

Hi,

I am almost sure you're allergic to propylen glycol, the solvent of rogain. Some people can't tolerate it. I suggest that you use a version of minoxidil without propylen glycol. Dr. Lee makes it. http://www.xandrox.com
item number 540. I had many friends who used Rogain or generic minoxidil and had your problem and since they switched to dr. lee's minoxidil they forgot about itching and redness!

Good luck,

Eliaz
