Hey Fellas,

This is my first post, so please be kind! I'm a 26y/o with mild thinning of my crown. My hairline is thick and strong and have never had a problem with the forward part of my hair. When I first noticed my crown problem 3 years ago, I took immediate action, and was one of the suckers that went to Ashley & Martin and paid up big. If only I knew then what I know now. I'm sure some of you can relate!

I was given their haircare products, placed on Proscar, Saw Palmetto capsules and their 7% Minoxidil with 0.01% Retinoic Acid and frequent "Electro-therapy" sessions. At about 7 months I noticed my crown begin to fill-in, albeit slowly, however it was difficult sticking to the regimen, as I had a trendy haircut and grooming in my industry is a must. I couldn't present myself at work with oily hair and I didn't want to cut it back then!

I became too confident (with my crown filling-in) at the time, that I stopped that treatment - big mistake! Having had difficulty styling my hair, I went to a #3 cut, and have remained this style for the past 12 months. Thank god it suits me! My crown was thinning more, not only to how it was, but I was having a lot more sheds. I decided to take the bull by the horns, and fight this battle, and I'm winning, again....(slowly, but surely!). This time WITHOUT Ashley & Martin.

I went to my doctor, and took in one of my old Minoxidil bottles that I had from A&M. She wrote a prescription and I took it to a pharmacist who organized the 7% Minoxidil with 0.01% Retinoic Acid to be made up at a compound. A 100ml bottle costs me AU$82.50. She prescribed me finasteride, and this time I chose to go on the more $$ Propecia as opposed to the Proscar I was on before. That was just a personal preference this time around.

As I'm still in the A&M books, I get my Saw Palmetto capsules from them. Whether they work or not, I'm taking them, as I'm going to win this battle. A&M offered to sell me the Hairmax Lasercomb for AU$1,200, however I did my research and found another supplier in Australia that sells the genuine Hairmax Lasercomb for AU$900. It's worth doing your research! So I bought that too, aswell as the American Crew Revitalize System.

With all this banter, it's only my crown that's slightly thinning, however if you want to win this, you have to do all in your might and stick with your treatment! I started all of my treatments again in January 2006, all on the same day. I have a calender that I keep, and have taken a couple of photos, of which I'll display once I get a storyboard of photos.

I'm three months in, and my hair has thickened up, my crown is slowly filling-in, which I have recieved voluntary, brilliant confirmations from those close to me. I am being patient, and not expecting miracles right away as IT TAKES TIME. You have to be dedicated. This IS part of our daily lives now, and is a constant treatment, not just until you feel its looking better. I've made that mistake. Look at it like diabetes. You must take your shots, we MUST use our minoxidil - that simple.

Now for the Lasercomb. As I started all these treatments at once, I cant say it isn't working for, nor can I really say that it is. I believe it's keeping my scalp healthy, however I can't say whether it is that, that's giving me the results, as I'm also using proven treatments.

All in all, you don't need places like A&M to assist you with your male pattern baldness, you can do it yourself - the only thing I am thankful for is getting the right Minoxdil formula for me. You CAN go to your doctor and get the percentage of minoxidil and other ingredient you'd like compounded. You just need to know, and now that I have learnt, I hope that I have inspired some of you to continue what your doing, just be patient.

Have an aim, be dedicated to it, and you will suceed.

My father and one of my brothers have male pattern baldness, but it seems to skip one child, eg: my dad's bro has a full head of hair, and my dad has lost his crown area, and one of my brothers has a full head of hair. If only it skipped me

Downunder - well done, Im glad you managed to ditch Ashley and Martin. With a bit of knowledge you can avoid being ripped off - I just wish there was some way of educating the thousands of people who are currenlty being ripped off by A&M.
