Hey Ropcat, I have a question to ask. When you say you maintained for 4 years...did the thickness of hair change? I mean it must be thinning when u started finasteride. So for those 4 years did your hair get thick and u felt volume on top?

Well, it was only thinning in the front inch of the hairline and in a spot on the vertex when I started finasteride. In those spots I maintained about the same amount of hair. (However, the hair quality and haircount at the temples declined some, though not the placement of the hairline at the temples. The thickness increased almost imperceptibly at the vertex.) The hair on top of the head stayed about the same. It did decline a little bit in terms of quality, in that it used to be wavy and have more body, but now it's more flat and straight. So in a broad, cosmetic sense I looked pretty much the same at the end of four years as I did when I started finasteride.

The changes were small enough that I really need to think hard about what they were, so in that sense, finasteride did exactly what I asked it to. But there were very minor changes, probably noticeable only to me, that were negative. Over the last eight months these changes have started becoming a bit more noticeable (especially at the vertex and right temple), but very slowly. When I style my hair, and unless there's a bright light shining on my vertex, I still can pass for someone who's not losing his hair, I think. How long that will last, I'm not sure.
