Ok I've started to notice my temples are starting to recede. My dad and my older brother are the same way so it runs in the family. Its started to do this over the last year or so. I'm ok with the fact that I may eventually lose some of my hair but I would like to at least make it thru my 20's before it becomes noticeable which it is starting to be.
I'm looking into spironolactone 5% from http://www.wholesalehairproducts.com/ I'm kinda the typical broke college student so I can't afford to start using something expensive that I cannot stop using w/o losing more than what I started with.
Are there any negative side effects with spironolactone? Has anyone here had any results with spironolactone alone?
Any help would be appreciated, I've tried searching but everything seems to contradict each other and I don't know what to do

Yes, finasteride can be affordable for anyone who is having an Internet connection. Just watch out for Proscar or even the cheaper Fincar. I would rather starve than not take finasteride. Good Luck!

Thanks for the help. When you say watch out for Proscar or Fincar do you mean they are bad?
What is recommended and where is a reliable place to purchase these?(w/o a prescription)
What mg pills should I get and what should my dose be?
Propecia is a form of finasteride correct? I'm asking because I've seen some posts of some people who lost more hair with it and their chest broke out with acne. Which leaves me with the question, Is there any noticeable negative side effects with finasteride? What kind of positive results if any?

Sorry for so many questions but I just want to know what I'm getting myself into. I came here like 3-4 months ago trying to find something to do. I couldn't find any solid answers and everything seemed risky so I ended up trying Nizoral 1% and I haven't seen any noticeable results with that. I figure I need to do something now if I want save my hair.

Ok I did a little research, finasteride's side effects include breast enlargement and decreased sex drive? Not too mention a shedding stage? Not really feeling that. Does spironolactone do anything like that?

sides are less than 3%, 1.5 after a year... hardly something to worry about

i have not seen any evidence of major regrowth with spironolactone... only finasteride or dutasteride

Well at this stage I would just like to keep my hair where it is but if it regrows some that'd be nice. I'd rather stay away from internal drugs with side effects for the time being. I ended up ordering some spironolactone from the site I listed earlier so i guess I'll see if it does anything. Hopefully I didn't just waste $33
