receding hairline + moderate itching = more loss to come?

Hi everyone. I'm 33 and thinning near my temples with recession of about an inch. I have moderate scalp itch, currently, which i didn't used to have. When I shampoo I notice that I'll have quite a few hairs in my hand (like 8-10 strands or so). I guess my question is that since I'm experiencing the scalp itch and I've noticed the recession, is there more hairloss to come? The itching is pretty much centralized at the top of my head. Is this the area that I'll see the loss? :shock: Do you think since I have noticed these things, that I should consult my doctor and consider starting a regimen? Thanks.

the dht can cause some itch, get on finasterid and nizoral 2%.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I definitely wouldn't mind keeping what I have! I've never had this type of itch before... especially on the crown! Coupled with the itch and the recession over the last year or so I can only fear the worst....

the itch and hairloss has stopped for me so.. it doesnt hurt to try the finasteride and nizoral

Drink plenty of water. Dehydration causes dry scalp and itch and thereafter hairloss..You cells need water to work somake sure you have adequate levels. check ur nails for ridges, this is another signof dehydration.

I had the "itch" and it seemed to have settled down since on finasteride. I also hope that means it is not attacking the hair as aggressively too. I also use nizoral by the way. I am just trying to buy a few more years of hair.

I get that dam itch too. Thats my problem I really think that DHT is at work. I swear saw palmetto acted like a weak finasteride and had the same effects. It also by coincidence completely stopped my head from itching. I think I might try finasteride because I think thats what I need.

My scalp itch was terrible. It felt like it was just under the skin. I would take extra showers at night to releave it. Now that I am on DHT blockers such as dutasteride, my scalp itch has gone away completely.

It has been strange... a couple of years ago I was under unusual stress (both professional and personal) and I started breaking out worse than I had ever before. Worse even than when I was in highshcool! I've researched that a bit and most reports say that stress wont cause it by itself. However, I have no other explanation and I do feel that stress can strong enough to affect hormones (I work as a stockbroker). Hell, stress is a killer! So, I almost think that's when my hairline started to recede too, but I was unaware at the time because I didn't notice it. Now a couple of years later my stress has definitely subsided some but my body chemistry hasn't changed... yet anyway. I'm using Dan's regimen for my face which has worked really well to clear that up.

you can go deep further by taking oral spironolactone with finasteride. DHT must be responsible of this itch problem.

Wow, I never put the hairloss/scalp itch link together before. But come to think of it, last year, when my hairloss was beginning, my scalp did itch quite a bit. I almost went to the doctor for it (wish I had, because I would have caught my diffuse thinning about 4-6 months earlier). But since being on finasteride and nizoral shampoo, my scalp does not itch at all.

I would still see a derm before deciding anything. Propecia is more then enough to stop dht I would never take oral spironolactone and definitely not oral spironolactone and another dht blocker thats just insane. Consider we know for a fact that DHT has some very important roles in the body. Completely eliminating it for 20 years is no joke. I have been debating propecia but have little family history. I might get generic propecia from canada with a prescription and then cut into .25mg which comes out to 7 dollars a month and .25 is still very effective. Im scared to even try .25mg. Hell saw palmetto gave me sides.
