Receding Hairline...what Should I Do?

Hi guys, i've been subconscious about my receding hairline since i was a teenager, (thats when i lost the most part of my hair) and i thought i would be bald by now.
"The problem" is that i'm 33 years old and my hair loss stopped around my twenties, so i've had this receding hairline for more then 10 years.
My father and my two brothers, (one is 10 years younger then me), are already bald, and i'm still the same...i lose some hair here and there, but nothing significant...but, because i lost a lot of hair when i was younger, my receding hairline is noticeable and my hair is thin/fine.

So, my question is: Is this normal? I've had barber's saying that my receding hairline is normal and i shouldn't be worrying about going bald but i think i'm at least a 3 in the noorwood scale....I never tried anything to maintain the hair (no minoxidil or any other product) because i thought i would be bald by now, but since i'm 33 and i still have hair, i'm thinking that maybe i should do something to keep the hair i have, or is too late?

Not at all. As long as follicles haven't been "dead" for a while, they can be "revived" with Finasteride, Minoxidil etc

Here are some pics of my hair now, and when i buzzed (nº 4 on top) it last summer:

That's not the MOST agressive, but you are a Norwood three. And at thirty three, that is somewhat agressive.

If you don't use anything, in your fifties (probably forties), you will probably be at least a Norwood five.

You are going in the same direction as your brothers. Just not as fast, but fast.

you are a male so it is defiantly normal. If you can hold on to what you have now you will be set, I think your hair looks great, it definitely suits your face.

Im on the same path you are right now. Im 5 years behind you and a solid nw2 with clear signs of starting to make my way to 3.

You're probably more nw3 than nw2 at this point but I don't know if you're quite textbook yet.
It may be too late to regrow, but with these drugs you just never know if you'll regain or not. You could be one of those that does!

Thanks for the help/advice guys.

Like i said before, i never thought that i would made this far with so much hair, my younger brother is already between a noorwood 4/5 and he's only 23.

I'm not balding in my crown yet, just have this receding hairline and thin/fine hair all around, so, what should i take/do to maintain this hair? Is there any kind of products that are more effective for cases like mine?

And i'm also not sure if i should keep the longer hair or go shorter?

Density still looks pretty good, hop on the big 3 and you'll look like an early 30s guy even in your mid 40s

Also op, the shorter style looks a lot thicker and frames your face a lot better, a nice fade connecting your beard and hair and you'll be good to go, I personally like the shorter look on you

Hi G.I.Joey, thanks for the help.
I've done some research to find out more about the Big 3, and correct if i'm wrong, it consist in using at the same time this 3 products: Minoxidil, Finasteride and Nizoral.

Minoxidil is a product that you apply on the hair, correct? Is the Rogaine Foam a good product? From what i've seen, it looks like the most easy product to apply.

Finasteride is a pill, and where i live, i can only buy it with a prescription from a doctor...i have a doctors appointment next month, so i guess i'm going to ask him to give me a prescription of this product.

Nizoral is a shampoo that you have to use every week.

What i don't know/understand is what's the right percentage that i should use of each product?

Hi Tyler, thanks for the help.
I think your hair line is in a better shape...i've also looked into the product you're using, but, even thought i found a lot of people saying that it works, i didn't find anyone with a follow up history (they say that the hair grows back, but i'm not sure if they were able to maintain the gain)...but i will follow your thread about your experience with the product and i hope it works, so i can do the same :)

Yes, minoxidil is a liquid or foam (you have the choice, apparently both as effective, liquid is a lot messier but some people claim more efficient as well), buying the kirkland brand seems to be the better option, if you need a source you can pm me and ill send you a link to where i buy mine. Minoxidil is sold in 2% and 5%, the latter is what you should start on, i think 2% is for women. It is most effective when used 2x a day and some people (myself) apply it only once.

As for propecia (finasteride), its pretty much a prescription everywhere besides a couple places which ive seen mentioned on this forum. Talk to you doctor about propecia and see what they tell you, most doctors are open to prescribing it. If you got any other questions feel free to ask man. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the help...yeah, i think i'm gonna try the foam, seems more practical, and i would like to know your source, if they ship the product to Europe.

One other thing, i can expect to lose/shed hair from using this products? When will that happen? Since my hair is kinda long at the moment, i would prefer to buzz it or shave it before that happens, because i see that a lot of people freak out when that happens, and some even stop the treatment because of the shedding...i don't know how i would react to the shedding, so i want to be prepared to when that happens.

My goal is just to keep the hair that i have, i'm not counting on having any gains, because most of my hairloss happened in my teens, so those follicles are dead for a very long time, but if i can keep what i have, that would be a great success to me :)
