Receding on left temple only -- unsure if male pattern baldness

Hi guys,
Over the past 10 months I have been expereiencing hair loss only on my left temple. My right temple has remained the absolute same. I am very close to hopping on finistride. I have visited a derm and she did not seem very knowledgeable..she told me either I have male pattern baldness or it is telogen effluvium (I had a nervous break down two months prior to noticing the hair loss after an incident with a drug) and the times sort of matched up to my hair loss. I want to act fast if it is indeed male pattern baldness and hop on finasteride.

What are your thoughts? Thanks to all in advance.

I'm losing at the crown and only the right side. I put my right side shed on minoxidil speeding up my hair cycles as my left side is fine and i never used minoxidil there. It's definitely not unheard of for it to happen though.

dude how old are you? its rediculous to get on finasteride which wont do much or any at all for that slight receded temple. but i know how u feel because i made the same mistake a year ago for a little thining i had on my hairline and got on finasteride. i wish i knew. think about it before getting that pill. i know being proactive is better but there are better ways to treat that slight recesion

Whats your family history? I'm struggling to see any hair loss at all.

assymetrical recession is common if you have male pattern baldness I would start finasteride

No one i know in my family has hairloss. I know assymetrical is common but when does it normally start to even out? If you look at my right side yoi can still see its very juvenile...
