Receeding? Genetics?

Sorry for the generic "worrying teenager" thread..
I recently noticed my temple areas were thinning a bit, though I never paid much attention to it before. I'm 19 years old, is this normal (or much of a problem)?
Also, my uncle on my mother's side started balding in his late 20's, but my father still has a decent head of hair, just with a bit of a receeding hairline. I heard you take after your mother's side in the hair genetics department, is this true?

It definitely looks like it could be male pattern baldness but I think you need better pics. You can't really see your whole hairline to get much of an idea as to the extent of the recession or length of your hair. It could be a mature hairline and just looking worse because of the angle, longer hair being swept back etc. Just IMO.

Here are better pictures. But honestly, it doesn't look this bad in real life, the camera makes it look slightly worse.

Man, that's definitely male pattern baldness I'm sorry to say.

I think you should try Finasteride or Minoxidil depending on which one your system tolerates better because believe me, being a teenage/early20s NW2/3 when you got long hair is not good!

I was pretty much a NW3 at 23, but my hairline looked like yours at 19, I kept deluding myself that it was just a "mature" hairline and that it wouldn't progress any further past 21, but it did! I used to enjoy having my hair long, but since it got to a NW3 that style now looks ridiculous and it has to be kept shorter thesedays.

Also the mothers hair thing is a total myth, my male pattern baldness all comes from my father's side, I've got a 30 y/o brother though, who's taken after my mother's side and he still has a virtually perfect hairline.

Anyway man, have a look into the the two main treatments I mentioned above and start using Nizoral 2% shampoo on your hairline in the mornings too. Good luck!

Oh man, how positive are you that it's male pattern baldness?
Cheers for the informative response. If I take Rogaine of Propecia, will I have to take it the rest of my life?
I have dreadlocks (hard to see in the pics), and it'd be a damn shame to have to snip them off. Damn this sucks.

Yeah, unfortunately man you're stuck with taking Propecia and/or Rogaine for life when you start taking them. You could quit Rogaine, but afterwards your hair would fall out rapidly. You should try Propecia first as this will definitely keep your hair as it is now... if you get sides from Propecia, or you want to regrow any lost hair then start Rogaine also..... and don't forget using nizoral shampoo on your hairline either.

Unfortunately I can't use Propecia due to sides, but for a steady receder like me, Rogaine is still very effective and makes a big difference.

Also people here don't understand what it's like if you've had long hair most of your life like I have, for guys who've had short hair since the age of 5, a bit of recession doesn't affect the appearance of their hair that much, but if you wanna pull off the long hair look then you can't really be more than a NW2 or it starts to look a bit strange.

Keep the dreads man, just get on the meds now and your hair will be fine, don't wait til you're 23 like I did.
