Been on finasteride for 5 plus months and now diffuse thinning is occurring from hairline to vertex and side to side which was never there prior to starting the treatment. Something is going horribly wrong. My current derm is trying to push PRP treatment. I’d like to be seen by someone new for an evaluation. Any recommendations in the NJ/NY area? Thanks.

Seriously? No one can recommend a good dermatologist in NY/NJ area? Been looking online but not easy to find one who specializes in hair loss (who people actually like).

Keep in mind that a dermatologist who specializes in alopecia is not going to know significantly more than an overall good dermatologist. At this point in time, they all only know so much. Also, even Dr. Tosti, who is arguably the best/most knowledgeable in the world, is pushing PRP. In terms of a good derm overall in NYC, I would research Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas or Whitney Bowe, but I just saw online that Dr. Bowe herself offers PRP (and I'd have to guess she'd recommend it to you). It's a big money-maker for them, and with some science behind it, I'm not surprised.

Thanks for the response. I haven’t done a ton of research on PRP but I see mixed reviews. Not sure I want to spend a few thousand dollars for something that might not work. I started taking Finasteride 5 months ago because of some pretty rapid receding I saw at the temples. Since jumping on it my entire scalp has lost an immense amount of density. I don’t notice any crazy sheds but every week it has gotten thinner all over. There’s not a single spot now that is not thinning. Not sure if it’s a bad reaction to the meds, part of a cycle that is pushing everything out at once, or some other hairloss condition altogether. I’m too terrified to stop and I’m terrified to continue.
