Recovery from S5 shedding?

I'm a weird case in that I turned to S5 not because of male pattern baldness, but due to an incident when I got gum stuck in the front of my hair and it ripped out a good number of hairs, leaving an artificial "bald spot."

I bought some S5 cream to help the hair grow in quickly and fully. I've been using it for ten months because I figured it was "healthy," (even after I wasn't worried about the hairs that got ripped out) and then today I pulled my hair back from my forehead and spotted some serious--but not terrible--thinning, ONLY where I'd been applying the S5. I threw that stuff away today.

Can I reasonably expect that my hair will come back? I was on the product nearly a year and the loss was noticeable but not catastrophic.

S5 cream should only be used for Androgenetic Alopecia or other dermatological pathologies where androgens are involved. From what I've read and from what my dermatologist told me, minoxidil can be used for non-Androgenetic Alopecia hair loss since it has a chance to regrow hair basically wherever it's used.

I'd definitely see a dermatologist though and ask their opinion on how to best address this issue, it's not conventional hair loss and hence we as forum members can only do so much to help.

Next time (let's hope not though) you get gum in your hair, instead of ripping it out try using olive oil or white petrolatum (Vaseline), this will help stiffen and remove the gum without harming your follicles.
