Hey Guys,

I'm noticing the hair on my knuckles is getting wisper thin when it was very course before. It seems like the hair on my hand traveling up my forearm is getting thinner too but its negligible and hard to know exactly. Seems like some other body areas are slightly thinner too.

No strengthening on my head just yet but its still early i guess.

Any thoughts?

Since I have used finasteride, chest and shoulder hair has grown slower and less thick.

You may be experiencing the same thing even if I don't know why less DHT should effect body hair.

My experience. Yours may differ.

On propecia daily for about 20 months. Over this time my beard has thinned out on my face, a sign of reduced dht. However, despite the reduced dht, my hairloss has gone into over drive. I have no before and after dht blood tests.

man the fact your f*****g body hair thins out when you take finasteride cannot be healthy.

i am talking in general to everyone. this thinning of body hair is a common reported side effect

i would prefer scalp hair than beard hair obvi, but it just cant be healthy reducing dht like this. what else does it f*****g do to you.

I sort of agree.... we have a bunch of genetically DHT effected hair on our head (not even all of our head hair) and our answer is to lower our entire bodies DHT level. Seems like nuking the problem. But I'm trying to approach it cautiously

And I didn't mention it but this is 3 month's on saw palmetto not finasteride

Loss of body hair isn't really something to be alarmed of. Less circulating DHT means less stimulation of androgen receptors and, notably, a decrease in pilosity.

What's more concerning is the reduced production of other hormones and neurosteroids through 5-alpha reductase inhibition.

The following reactions are known to be catalyzed by 5α-reductase:[9]
Cholestenone → 5α-Cholestanone
Progesterone → 5α-Dihydroprogesterone
3α-Dihydroprogesterone → Allopregnanolone
3β-Dihydroprogesterone → Isopregnanolone
Deoxycorticosterone → 5α-Dihydrodeoxycorticosterone
Corticosterone → 5α-Dihydrocorticosterone
Cortisol → 5α-Dihydrocortisol
Aldosterone → 5α-Dihydroaldosterone
Androstenedione → 5α-Androstanedione
Testosterone → 5α-Dihydrotestosterone

Allopregnanolone possesses a wide variety of effects, including, in no particular order, antidepressant, anxiolytic, stress-reducing, rewarding,[20] prosocial,[21] antiaggressive,[22] prosexual,[21] sedative, pro-sleep,[23] cognitive and memory-impairing, analgesic,[24] anesthetic, anticonvulsant, neuroprotective, and neurogenic effects.[1]

Fluctuations in the levels of allopregnanolone and the other neurosteroids seem to play an important role in the pathophysiology of mood, anxiety, premenstrual syndrome, catamenial epilepsy, and various other neuropsychiatric conditions.[25][26][27]

then show us your hair gain results, hows your regrowth? Oh, its nothing? So not reducing dht didnt help? Well im on duta and has unreal regrowth, its miraculous. Lets compare results, then we can talk seriously. Untill then, dht reduction is without doubt extremely effective. Its the only thing that work as per today.

no doubt lowering dht is effective. but its fucked up thing to do. if you do get sides.

Most of us dont get sides. Or we get sides that are acceptable or we get sides that are good. Thats the reality. But i was asking your results from NOT reducing dht?

Get over yourself, what studies claim MOST get sides. I'll wait

Most = 1/10 people

Math checks out.

I don't get these people. They go against what doctors/dermatologists say and just say 'oh man well changing up hormones just sounds bad man' then they go to bars and try to have sex with girls who they HOPE are on birth-control - a hormone altering drug that directly affects girl's fertility.

If it was some horrible chemical meant to castrate men, people's trusted primary care physician's wouldn't be prescribing it to millions of people. The answer is simple, some people respond negatively...STOP if this is you. Some people handle it well. Doesn't mean there should be pointless fear mongering.

Seriously, it's become ridiculous, i honestly think it stems from the fact that that specific person can't deal with the drug so therefore it's there mission to f*** up everyone else's experience.

If we were to gauge side effect % from a forum like this then we can also conclude that finasteride doesn't work in 90% of cases. With all the reports of continued shedding, no regrowth, advancing of Norwood on here, you'd imagine that finasteride does next to nothing.

People who are here(better yet, still here after starting finasteride) either suffer sides or haven't experienced a cosmetic difference or have advanced loss. The rest of the finasteride users are out enjoying life not thinking about and obsessing about it. It's really that simple.

Still praying that 5 months in isn't enough time to gauge regrowth, but I feel like my loss has def stopped.

Sometimes I hear people with reasonable grievance against propecia and thats understandable. Sounds like their sides slowly crept up on them over years and of course at that point it's hard to reverse. They probably should have discontinued it much earlier. I can at least be proactive about the risk of side effects and measure it over time so every 3-6 months I can re-evaluate if I want to continue.

Then I hear people who say they took it for a week and it made them gay and depressed while decreasing the size of their penis. Just makes me shake my head.

Exactly, sides are very real, I don't take that away from anyone, but the content of what people consider sides or blame directly on finasteride just seems very off

Are there before\after photos of your duta "unreal regrowth" somewhere on this board? Serious question, thinking about getting on duta myself and need some encouragement.
