So this is apparently a silicone-free shampoo that is marketed by Regaine Australia, a brand of minoxidil. They claim that silicones impede the absorption of minoxidil and other topicals.

Now, for those of you who use RegenePure DR shampoo and have read the ingredient label, you'll see that it contains dimethicone, a type of silicone. So I ask those of you who use RegenePure DR and minoxidil concomitantly to share your experience, have you experienced regrowth with minoxidil, have you only achieved maintenance or have you had no results at all?

I ask this because there are no clinical studies regarding silicones and their ability to impede the absorption of topicals and am wondering if this is simply a myth that Regaine Australia is using to promote their shampoo or that it actually is true and those of you who are experiencing little success with minoxidil (read: no regrowth or even no maintenance) as a result of concomitantly using a silicone shampoo such as RegenePure DR.

Thank you very much for your cooperation!

(Agustin Araujo, I know for a fact you use both of these treatments, it says so in your Success Story thread. Your input would be much obliged)

It would be interesting to know the validity behind that claim, but it wouldn't just be regenepure users because there are lots of brand that contain silicone, especially in conditioners.

Cheers. I'm well aware of that fact but since no one replied to my other thread on this topic even after I 'bumped' it after one month I figured I'd throw in a name like RegenePure DR to see if that got anyone's attention.

I really hope this claim can be disproven because there are a lot of styling products I would love to use that contain dimethicone.

Oops I have been using Regenepure DR daily for about 8 months with Fina 1.25mg everyday and Min 5% twice daily as my big 3.

I chose Regenepure DR against Nizoral so I could use it everyday. The shampoo itself has never given me anything bad ever dryness, itch etc and hair feels nice after it.

I was NW5/6 when I started and have had success because i have diffuse 4/3V now. Min 5% liquid in alcohol seems to absorb ok leaving a white residue in about an hour. I am now wondering if it is just evaporating in the air?

Does anyone know whether Minoxidil evaportaes in air?

It doesn't, it wouldn't be approved as a topical treatment if it were to evaporate.

Did you start all 3 treatments at the same time? Also, did you experience the 'minoxidil shed'?

Yes all three at same time 8 months ago. I never experienced a shed, probably because there was hardly any to shed LOL.
I am 38, was NW2 until I was 30+ and then lost rapidly in last 6-8 years going to NW5/6 with hardly any hair in the NW5/6 region (i.e. most of head except the horseshoe). Last 8 months on big 3 have given me diffuse growth all over except the temples and bit of crown, i.e. the NW3V/4 which is completely bald. Unlike most on the forum, I have already passed the age when I was looking for girls or a partner long ago (been married for 15 years and have 2 school going kids) so am not bothered about hair loss. For me, I like how I look with what I have and any improvement is just a bonus.

Cheers mate, I appreciate the detailed and prompt answer. Given your anecdote, the lack of clinical studies, the lack of other forum users noticing issues and the widespread use of silicones in many dermatological products, I'm going to hypothesise that if silicones impeded absorption of topical medication to any significant degree, it would be known by now.

Regaine Australia's website was probably just peddling that claim in the hope to sell their overpriced Pregaine shampoo. Also all of the other claims about this notion on the internet use an analogy of silicone car wax, obviously our skin is not metal and hence silicone in shampoos and other products likely just rinse off.

Thanks mate. But your post gave me the encouragement to add another thing to my regimen. I've just bought an expensive mason pearson bristle brush which I will use prior to applying minoxidil just in case. Its not known to help with regrowth but it cannot cause any harm whatsoever and is good for the scalp and hair anyway. It might also help remove some dead matter along with anything else that might be there.

Hello Captain Hook!

I first started using topical Minoxidil a while back before I knew about Regenepure DR, and have had results from the medication. I've been using Regenepure DR for over a year now along with Minoxidil usage and have had results from those two treatments. I personally doubt silicones, specifically dimethicone, impede the absorption of topical treatments such as Minoxidil for example. I have used Minoxidil before and after Regenepure DR and have not noticed any impairments in the effectiveness of the antihypertensive vasodilator at treating my Male Pattern Baldness. If the dimethicone in Regenepure DR genuinely impairs the effectiveness of topical treatments, it's definitely at a level too minimal to take notice of, and I certainly would have noticed something negative if the silicone notably impaired the effectiveness of the topical treatments I use. Other than that, that's been my experience with those two treatments.

I used regenepure but switched to lipogaine big3 shampoo and never looked back. Regenepure always made my hair dry but lipogaine actually makes it feel extremely nice! Also the ingredients are awesome! I use lipogaine shampoo every other day. Also the reviews are way better than regenepure.

I'm going try Purdor gold next because it's reviews are astronomically Better than lipogaine, and it's all natural but has ketoconazole and 15+ dht blockers, but I hear it's pretty drying. I asked about it here before quite a few times but nobody has tried it so after my lipogaine shampoo runs out I will give purador a try and do a review for you guys.

Aren't you comparing apples to oranges (because Lipogaine is also Minoxidil so it's the '1' and '3' combined while Regenepure is Keto so it's just the '3' in the Big3?

I have used Lipogaine Big 3 Shampoo before, it is a pretty high quality Ketoconazole shampoo and helps add volume to hair. Although my preference is using Regenepure DR since I find it much more soothing to my scalp, then I use different moisturizing shampoos that add volume to my hair so it looks healthier and thicker.

no lipogaine big 3 shampoo does not have minoxidil in it. lipogaine makes a minoxidil product, but their big 3 shampoo is different and fairly new. they just named the shampoo big 3, probably to try to monetize the "big 3" treatment name... but the shampoo is only ketoconazole, saw palmetto and some other ingredients... it doesn't have any minoxidil or finasteride in it... its 25$ for 8 oz just like regenepure dr.
