When studies on finasteride and rogaine mention regrowth, does regrowth refer to hair that was once not visible but has now come through the scalp again or hair that was visible but has thickened and has reversed miniaturization? I know not all people experience regrowth but do all people thicken hairs that have miniaturized? I haven't lost hair yet but it has diffusely thinned/miniaturized throughout the top and my scalp is more visible.

It can refer to all kinds of things unless the author specifically states so.
Look at it this way: Minoxidil can give "regrowth" by making hairs grow longer and thicker, but unless the miniaturization process is stopped those hairs after a while will become just as bad as they were pre-minoxidil.
Reversal of miniaturization is basically reversal of male pattern baldness - vellus hairs turning into terminal, slick bald areas sprouting new hairs, and hairs that are only just thinned, becoming full in diameter again. The whole balding process but basically in reverse.

I see, I started Propecia yesterday, a prominent hair loss surgeon/specialist Dr. Bernstein in NYC said that I've completely lost only very little to no hair but most of the hair on top has thinned to the point that it looks like I've lost hair. He used a video densitometer. I feel like I should wait to see what Propecia can do before committing to Minoxidil. I would think and hope that hair that has only thinned has a better chance at becoming full/fuller in diameter.
I think you might mean a high DHT level is the precursor for thinning hair. But yea I'm trying to get these hairs that have become thinner to become fuller terminal hairs. Idk what my chances are, this isn't the most optimistic forum, but I've seen legitimate before/afters of men with less/thinner hair than me rethicken lots of hair and even regain all of it. But the 48% regrowth figure from the Propecia studies and this forum have made me worried, I was wondering what it is about Propeica or certain people that allows them to do well with Propecia and other that don't.
