Hello All,

I am a 24 year old male, and Ive been searching through these forms for about 6 months trying to find some helpful answers. I finally got up the courage this past week and decided to make my own account.

Baldness runs in my family, my father as it, as does my grand father. Nothing on my mothers side, that I can notice anyhow. I had the thickest most full hair growing up, but within the past year or two I have noticed serious thinning, starting at the top of my skull and running in a straight line to the front of my forehead. Here is a picture:

img20100805185414.jpg

Its starting to become extremely noticeable. So far, I've been taking bioxin, vitamin E, and a multivitamin every day. I use the volume conditioners and shampoos - but they only mildly help out, at best.

I've read alot about getting a blood test to see if I am missing a key vitamin in my body, to only washing your hair once every three days. What exactly should I be doing?

Im considering trying rogane, but I am not sure since I only have thin hair, and not balding yet. Well maybe alittle bit on top. Should I see a "hair doctor"? Do any of you have any advice. Im really starting to go nuts with all this hair thinning.

I appreciate any help anyone wants to offer. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and hopefully supply some helpful information.

That is male pattern baldness

Forget about the vitamins and blood tests, you have genetic hair loss.

If I were you I would forget about rogaine. You are experiencing diffuse thinning all over your head. I don't know how people with generalized hair loss apply it without ending up looking funny.

You need to start propecia as soon as possible if you want to save your hair, at this moment you are in the right time to do it.

Finasteride is a Prescription Only Medicine.
You can get it online, same as most other non-controlled meds, but you really have to be sure about what you are doing if you're going to get a medication off of the net. I get mine online, but I know the risks.

If you don't know much about Finasteride, it's definitely better to go to your doctors. Just say "I'm going bald, I want to go on Finasteride (propecia) to help prevent it." Most of the time you'll get a prescription for it, no problems (you'll have to pay for it as it's not on the NHS.)

I'd give minoxidil a try if I were you (you can buy minoxidil at any Chemists), you have heavy diffusing going on and minoxidil works quite well at thickening up diffuse hair. It does however make your hair look greasy/weird as bigentries said (some apply it at night - others avoid applying it at night, as they say they rub it over their pillow then over their face...)

Use Nizoral 2-3 times a week in place of your regular shampoo. (You can buy Nizoral - "ketoconazole shampoo" - at any chemists.)

You've got quite bad loss for a 24 year old. I'd say, without any treatments, in 3 years you'll be NW6.
With the Big 3, you could thicken up nicely, you could just maintain what you have now, or it could all go anyway. It is the luck of the draw, and young guys with male pattern baldness often have aggressive loss that is hard to treat.

Maybe try a concealer like Toppik. This stuff "coats" your miniaturized (thin and colourless) hair and makes your hair look thicker. It works well on diffusers.

Thanks for the super helpful reply's.

What online pharma do you recommend to get finasteride? Ive seen a few sites, but I dont know how reliable they are. Any recommendations?

Thanks again.

Oh yeah, I forgot. I use magicpharma.com and they seem pretty well.

As for the minoxidil, what do you suggest? 10%, 5%, 7.5%? Seems like 10% would be the safest. The main question is, do I get the solution? The gel? the foam? I value your opinion since many of you are going through this, or have previously.

As for the nizoral - I see you recommended shampoo. Is the 2% shampoo actually effective? Not the tabs?

Thanks again for your advice. I am glad I posted this thread.

Listen, 350z: YOU NEED TO GET YOUR THYROID CHECKED! asap. lol. But seriously. SEE A Doctor. get your Thyroid checked. THEN worry about finasteride, Min, nizoral and etc.

I think finasteride would exasberate your condition. I think that diffuse thinning is caused by excess testosterone and not DHT. I think DHT causes more localized thinning.

Get your thyroids checked out is also my best advice. Perhaps consider how often you ejaculate(Others may slam me for this). Maybe start doing some aerobic excercises to mop up some of the free testosterone floating around your scalp.

Start Nizoral Asap. Rogaine is pointless and will bloat your face and make you look ugly and old for when you do go bald.

I went on finasteride a year ago and it made my hair worse. I started rogaine 4 years ago and it seemed to work for about 7 months but then stopped doing anything.

A month ago i quit finasteride and minoxidil. I started excercising regularly and have stopped masturbating every night like i had been for the last 5 years. My scalp feels so much healthier and my hair is actually thickenning again. Its so blatantly obvious for us diffuse thinners. On a plus note my face looks so much leaner from quitting the minoxidil and i probably wont mind going bald now that my good looks are coming back after being destroyed by minoxidil.

Now im sure theres a shed 2 months down the line from quitting the min but im gonna ride it out. Ive decided to go completely natural and then face the worst as of when it happens. Experiment with different oils(Emu, Castor) Take MSM, Biotin, and omega 3 supplements. I think the over masturbation is the true cause of my diffuse thinning so im gonna stick to my regimen of abstinenece and see how it goes.

First things first, goto a Doctor and get yourself checked out....particularly your thyroids and your blood.

Well, there are a lot of quacks on this board , it is up to you who to believe.
Getting your thyroid checked out is ONLY worthwhile if you have diffuse thinning ALL OVER the scalp, including in the donor area (the remaining "horseshoe area"). Thinning like this is known as Telogen Effluvium (Telogen Effluvium).

If you're thinning in the male pattern baldness area only, well, it's male pattern baldness, and getting your thyroid checked out is a waste of time; and visiting a GP will result in at most a prescription for Finasteride and a lecture saying "Baldness is very common in men, and the only real cure is acceptance."

As long as you ignored everything that guy said about no masturbation etc, and you take the big 3, you should be just fine.

Ok, thanks guys. I researched Telogen Effluvium and I dont think it have it since the rest of my head isnt thinning like the top.

on the Finasteride, what do you use for a proper, working dosage? and As for the minoxidil, what do you suggest? 10%, 5%, 7.5%? Seems like 10% would be the safest. The main question is, do I get the solution? The gel? the foam? What seems to be the best? Thanks again.

Your hair is definitely not just thin, it is balding. There is no way in hell that a thyroid problem would cause the pattern you're looking at right there and almost nothing that those multivitamins you are taking are doing to slow your loss. From your pics it looks almost 100% like classic androgenic alopecia. Best of luck on responding to the big 3 at least your temples are receded all to hell yet so getting started now will be quite helpful to your overall hair quality.
