Hi there guys, longtime lurker first time poster here.

I have very early signs of recession at the temples (only really on one side) however I have quite a high hairline anyway, so I am eager to act asap. My dad is around a Norwood 5 and is 55, and both my grandads died with full heads of around Norwood 2.5 hair. So I am not too concerned about rapid hairloss, but a steady and inevitable life of loss will await without treatments.

So after many months of researching I am considering jumping on propecia, but (as with sooooooo many people) side effects of long term pill usage do invoke hesitation. I'm not totally against it mind, and will certainly give it a try, but I am reluctant to jump on without any major concerns re: my loss given the potential sides.

I have recently stumbled/found out about Revivogen, which some forum users seem to have success with, and which claims to be a DHT blocking topical. The proof on the site looks convincing, it has excellent reviews from purchasing websites, it has had plenty of major media coverage, AND there are users on this forum who seem to have had good results. So.... what am I missing? Why isnt EVERYONE on this? Surely the smell/yellowyness cant be the only issue here??

Also I wondered, wouldnt say a regime of nizoral / Propecia AND Revivogen around the hairline be an impressive combo for combating the real cause of hairloss (DHT) and hoping for optimal regrowth.

I should add that I am 23, 24 in September, so I am young and any hairloss I currently have is in the early stages and (i hope) reversible with a proper regime.

Apologies If i have missed any similar threads - feel free to point me in their direction.

I am 28, and started losing my hair in the exact same way you did at the same age. My dad was a NW4-5 around my age (now NW7), but he started losing his around the age of 18. You can never judge the extent of your hair loss until it happens.. I am now a NW2.5ish, with receding temples and thinning at the crown. Hair loss has been very slow, but seems to be gaining ground as I get older. I had a perfect full NW1 up until I was around 23-24, so you really never know whats going to happen! I still consider myself lucky.

For your situation, I would recommend you start Finasteride. It is really the best way to go, and I believe the reports of side effects are way blown out of proportion, and think the chance of suffering anything permanent are almost zero.. But there are tons of threads about that topic already. Perhaps if you only have slight recession, you could consider 0.5mg a day and see how it goes, but its best to take at the full 1MG dose. For someone that still has most of their hair, there is really nothing better to take than finasteride.

Revivogen has only 1 ingredient (ketoconazole) that has any significant studies supporting that it can help with hair loss. All other ingredients are only supported by anecdotal evidence, and some not even. I think there may be a chance it could help with hair loss, but I think a bottle of nizoral will do the exact same thing, without the insane price. It is fairly new, and I think it is a good product with some strong research behind it, but unless you have extra money to blow, I would stay away until you see how you do on finasteride.
