roaccutane and male pattern baldness

Hi all, Im just curious to know if any of those 'gaining head' from male pattern baldness may have had acne problems in the past and were prescribed on Roaccutane by your derm. I have already heard of a few cases of people suffering from male pattern baldness at an early age,and I seem to be one of the cases of this.i was prescribed on roaccutane about 5 years ago, and went on it for only bout 6mths.

Wonder if anyone else here was on roaccutane previously?

Yes. Generally, it means that you have elevated testosterone levels. When combined with overly active oil glands, it's a recipe for bad acne.

There's no question my T-levels are through the roof. I get acne, build muscle fast, never gain weight unless I seriously f*****g try, naturally hairy as an ape (lasered off now, though), and I lose hair. I'm sure I'm not alone on these forums in these characteristics.

However, we know that T levels are linked to male pattern baldness; what is unknown is exactly how. If you cut off your balls, your T-levels drop to dangerous levels. You might even take on feminine characteristics. But without fail, you will not lose any more hair from that point.

But how? Why? We don't know. Just don't know. male pattern baldness is not entirely DHT, as we can stop virtually ALL dht in the body now, but yet, still suffer from hairloss.

As for Accutane, it causes hair thinning, not male pattern baldness. I've heard from numerous end users that it initiated their balding. But when you think about the science of Isotrenotonin, this is hard pill to swallow, since Vitamin A is not linked to hair loss in any fashion. Still, people are going to b**ch.

I've taken accutane - after I started balding - and it did not speed up or slow down the process. But everyone reacts to this medication differently.

I had a dermatologist who said that one of Accuates side effects IS hair loss! :freaked2:

I plan to go on low-dose accutane. I'm not too worried, as the hairloss side effects are most likely related to the regular high doses that most derms prescribe.

It's odd that accutane has been connected to hairloss while the very similar vitamin A derived medication, retin-A, is found in some hairloss remedies.

Only high doses of accutane can cause hairloss. And even then it is not Androgenetic Alopecia, but rather hairloss over the entire scalp.

Low dose accutane doesnt cause hairloss.

Why do you plan to go on low dose accutane matt?

I wish to treat some mild acne, possible rosacea. I am not nearly bad enough for high dose (which is the normal dose), in fact it would probably make me worse.

It's odd that accutane has been connected to hairloss while the very similar vitamin A derived medication, retin-A, is found in some hairloss remedies.

Their effects on hair growth are probably very similar. Generally, isotretinoin has demonstrated slightly less toxicity than tretinoin, but the main reason for the discrepancy is that systemic retinoid therapy usually involves much greater exposure.

BTW, even doses as low as 2.5 mg/day have been shown to work for acne during chronic administration.
