Rogaine Foam and Hairline Disaster

Good evening folks!

So this is a couple weeks of hell for me. I decided to try out Rogaine Foam on my front hairline last week..Big mistake. Used it like 4 times in total. Thought well why stop at the crown? Why not throw it on my receding hairline? Fast forward a week. It's gone. The little "tuff"...it all just disappeared? Now I have been reading..about shedding but after 4 days all gone in the front? Wife thought scalp looked really dry from it. I just want my original receding hairline back I think at this point. But I amazed at the number of "stopped Rogaine and it finally grew back" vs.".oh no..that's it after 4 days...damaged forever" war stories. Has ANYONE decided whoa maybe an extreme reaction here, just going to say call it a day...AND through time got most of their original hair back from a similar situation to mine? I hope so. :) It would certainly make me feel better.

I welcome your input and appreciate your time. Seem like a good group here...

Best,

Kevin

I'm new to browsing this forum regularly but I've not heard of shedding like that so quickly. Of course what I can say is, you can't really go back now, it will probably grow back and will need minoxidil to keep going. One thing I have seen plenty of on here is "I shedded so bad after stopping!" well duh.

Another thing I've read consistently are people debunking the claims that minoxidil speeds up the balding process, so just basing on that I really doubt that it's somehow made you bald.

Hey thank you for the response.Appreciate it. :). What is weird is as of this afternoon the hairs seem to be slowly coming back some getting longer..some just poking through the scalp. All exactly where my "tuff" was. I can only assume this is a good sign that it is moving in the right direction.(I pray LOL) .

Any other input is welcome folks...

Obviously do not continue that treatment. Talk to a dermatologist about how to recover and try to avoid products as much as possible.

rogaine didn't work for me either

Shedding after 4 days seems extreme. I had shredding with Rogaine but much slower. After a few months, the "shedding area" grew back but appeared to be thinned out. I eventually stopped using Rogaine because it seemed to have done more damage than good, and it was a waste of money.

Hey thanks folks for responding...appreciate it. The Rogaine Foam did cause a massive shed front after one week as I mentioned earlier..only been a week and a half since and I am starting to see hairs coming back in where me tuft was. I stopped the rogaine a week and a half ago at the same time. I was worried that since the foam did such a number so.quickly on my hairline it would be permanently damaged ( the original hairs). However it looks like this area is starting to recover....any other input is appreciated :)

How do I copy this thread to the shedding shedding one anyone?

Minoxidil causes a shed before it gets better I mean any sort of information you search for online and I believe even the product states you will go through a shed, and that's a good sign that you're responding. But if you don't experience results I believe in 4-6 months you should discontinue and consult with a doctor to see if its worth continuing. But I could be wrong on the last section.

Thank you for the quick response!! Well I am45 and decided its just not for me. I understand I won't grow new hair that monoxidal would provide but do want my hair that shed back. Will it regrow naturally or did monoxidal screw it up permanently? i am seeing some hairs come in already bit by bit where my Tuft was...let me know.your thoughts folks :)

Hair loss and regrowth in a weeks time...

Lol..no I don't mean back to the Tuft fully in a week...My wife is a reference cause I am pretty stressed about it...2 weeks ago after the rogaine foam on the hairline..it literally wiped it out..I'm not kidding.she confirmed it. After a nightmare week...it looks like hair ONLY at the Tuft is coming back.little hairs are growing in slowly...I was very worried that that initial shedding damaged the original hairs and they would not return. As I mentioned earlier I chose to just not use the rogaine anymore. That made me worry.

I think minoxidil contributed to the worsening of my right temple. My hypothesis is that the increased blood to the folicles which would include dht or the healthy hairs getting addicted to minoxidil did it. I'm a nw1 on my left temple around a 2.5 on my right. Nothing a hair transplant won't fix though, I'm saving for 1000 grafts and I'm on finasteride to prevent further loss.

In the same boat

I've been using Regaine (Rogaine) for the past 6 months. I've seen a great improvement around the back, sides and some of the crown of my head. However, like many of you it's the fronts of my hair that is receding and that is very thin. Having read many of your comments, I'm debating now whether to stop using Regaine or not.
