Rogaine foam or liquid dilemma

Hi,

I am a diffuse thinner and have been on the big 3 for about a year and half. To start with i was using rogaine liquid (generic) for about 4 months. The results were very encouraging but soon i started facing the dreaded scalp irritation. So much so that, my scalp became very itchy. Result, all the good work was being undone with new and old hair falling off thanks to constant scratching.

Later, i switched to rogaine foam (generic) and have been using it for about a year now. Haven't faced any scalp irritation with this ever. However, there has hardly been any improvement with hair count. Neither maintained nor increased, all it has done is slowed down hairloss. Its kinda left me disappointed.

So last week, i decided to give the liquid another shot. Used it for a couple of days, and damn, the itch is back and its terrifying.

Now i am left in a no mans land. Just so confused. The liquid works for me but i am not able to use it . The foam is doing nothing or very little to my liking.

Guys, please suggest me a way out of this. And whats with all these latest threads about foam not be any good and liquid being more superior.

The irritation is likely due to the propylene glycol present in most liquid minoxidil . try and find a liquid minoxidil without this in it.

@ Spanishlad : Well yes, all the irritation is due to ppg. Thats the reason why i had quit the liquid a year ago. Have been using foam for little over a year now with no results. Hence the dilemma.

Liquid minoxidil without ppg is not available in my part of the world. My best bet is foam which is sans ppg.

Can some one throw more light on foam ? Have they got +ve results ? Are they any good at all ?

Try foam AM and liquid PM.

I also use a light face moisturiser after scrubbing the night-before's liquid residue outta my hair in the morning, then apply the foam 10 min later and I'm yet to have any irritation.

Hopefully I'm getting best of liquid and foam, but I've no idea which is more effective tbh.

@ hairhoper : Well thats definitely a good option. But i am applying it just once before going to bed. Cant have it on while i work.

How about using foam and liquid alternatively ? Here i mean only for night applications. Would that make a difference for good ?

Are you using anything else in your regimen?

Because Minoxidil isnt going to stop your hairloss. It does not treat the underlying cause of male pattern baldness. It will help to slow your hairloss though and can give the impression that your hairloss has stopped temporarily.

I dont think its the foam at all but rather your hairloss is continuing. minoxidil can only do so much. You will only see so much regrowth...if that.

@ blaze : Yes, i am not just taking minoxidil alone , i am on finasteride as well. In fact, i started off with finasteride and later added minoxidil into my regimen.

I signed up just to answer this question. Folligen spray is the answer to this problem. I've used two different copper products including folligen spray. Folligen spray is the only one that totally took away scalp irritation caused by minoxidil. You're welcome.

if let's say i have seen results on the liquid, is it advisable to change to foam for better results?

This has been a debate for a few years now, dropper, foam, or spray. You need to use an application that will go directly on the scalp. Personally I think the foam causes a lot of waste. I have been good with my minoxidil spray. You need to find an applicator that goes directly onto the scalp. Your hair is already dead. Application needs to be on the scalp. I would say order of effectiveness: Sprayer, dropper, then the foam. The problem is that there are only a few products that sell a good sprayer and they are more expensive.
