We spend a lot of time in the sun and as a precaution we get examined by a dermatologist once a year. We lost a young friend to skin cancer and it's probably taught us the hard way of the dangers of frequent sun exposure.
Anyways, my son is 15 and I've noticed that his hairline has started to recede. I talked with the doctor beforehand not to mention it to my son and to just examine him and to take note of his scalp and hairline. I don't want to fill my son with unecessary anxiety before we know the facts.
The doctor believes that he's too young to be experiencing hairloss and the loss is normal hairloss experienced during puberty, and to check back in a year to see if it's gotten worse.
I started to lose my hair in my 20's, so I thought that if he would start minoxidil now that he would have a good chance to holding on to what he has. The Doctor informed me that they don't prescribe minoxidil to anyone under 18. We live in Toronto Canada, I don't know if it's the same in other parts of the world? What are the dangers of a teen using minoxidil? Should we get another opinion? Thanks.
