Sounds a bit fishy to me. Are you really so sure that you would have noticed anything different if you hadn't been on Rogaine and looking for something?

Reduce the dose to 1x a day and see if anything changes.

Transcutaneous minoxidil in the treatment of erectile dysfunctions in spinal cord injured men.

Abstract

We have tested the erectile effect of a topical applied drug (Minoxidil) in 15 spinal cord injured men. Minoxidil exerts a direct relaxant effect on arterial smooth muscles. This topical vasodilatory agent (1 ml of a 2% solution) was applied on the skin of the penile shaft. Increases in diameter and rigidity were measured with the RigiScan device (Dacomed Minneapolis, Minnesota). A total of 4 paraplegic men with a complete dorsal level lesion reported a positive erectile response. 3 of these 4 patients preferred to continue with this noninvasive treatment compared to prostaglandin E1 intracavernous injections. In our study no side effects were emerged and minoxidil proved to be well tolerated at the cutaneous level of the penis. Our results indicate that this treatment should be tested in spinal cord injured men before a invasive therapy is initiated.

You're paranoid.
1. It's not even a known side effect of Rogaine.
2. No way you can properly judge a small difference like that in such a short amount of time and rule out other factors.

I keep waiting for someone to post that minoxidil gave them cancer. I've read that it apparently accounts for just about every other malody known to man, including liver damage. Sometimes all you can do is shake your head.

Hyperprolactinaemia (HP), or hyperprolactinemia is the presence of abnormally-high levels of prolactin in the blood. Normal levels are less than 580 mIU/L for women, and less than 450 mIU/L for men.

Prolactin is a peptide hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland primarily associated with lactation and plays a vital role in breast development during pregnancy. Hyperprolactinaemia may cause production and spontaneous flow of breast milk and disruptions in the normal menstrual period in women and hypogonadism, infertility and erectile dysfunction in men.

Hyperprolactinaemia can be a part of normal body changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It can also be caused by diseases affecting the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. It can also be caused by disruption of the normal regulation of prolactin levels by drugs, medicinal herbs and heavy metals. Hyperprolactinaemia may also be the result of disease of other organs such as the liver, kidneys, ovaries and thyroid.

Causes

Hyperprolactinaemia may be caused by either disinhibition (e.g., compression of the pituitary stalk or reduced dopamine levels) or excess production from a prolactinoma (a pituitary gland adenoma tumour). A blood serum prolactin level of 1000–5000 mIU/L could be from either mechanism, but >5000 mIU/L is likely due to the activity of an adenoma with macroadenomas (large tumours over 10 mm diameter) whose levels of prolactin are up to 100,000 mIU/L. Hyperprolactinaemia inhibits gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) by increasing the release of dopamine from the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus (dopamine inhibits GnRH secretion), thus inhibiting gonadal steroidogenesis, which is the cause of many of the symptoms described below.

There is a suspicion that Minoxidil, a potassium channel agonist, may be related to the development of this disease. A two-year test with Minoxidil, under normal dosing parameters, was carried out on rats, which caused pheochromocytomas in both males and females, and preputial gland adenomas in males.

The caution on the bottle/box clearly states that if you have rapid/irregular heartbeat as a result of applying minoxidil to cease using it. It seems to me that you had that side effect and you should have stopped using it immediately upon noticing that. But it seems from reading your post you continued to use minoxidil. You apparently ignored the warnings regarding potential heart rate issues.

Also, I think another caution on the Rogaine packaging is that if you are on blood pressure medication then you shouldn't use the product. It sounds like you were already on a blood pressure med at the time you were using minoxidil. That's a no, no also.

So, it sounds like the issues you had with minoxidil were more on you than anything else.

I'm Just saying... the potential is there for any tablet side effects to show up with topical use, in a much lower capacity through systemic absorption. If the OP really wants to pursue this, this is an possible avenue to explore. 5 days is really early on though.

There is no way one is getting the type of systemic absorption of minoxidil with topical applications as through the oral medications unless one was dumping massive amounts on their heads several times per day. In which case they are far exceeding the recommended uses of minoxidil.

Point me to these some people who have had havoc wreaked upon them by minoxidil.

(And Timi doesn't count). :)

Not true, with some people a little bit goes systemic and causes havoc.

"causes havoc" Really?

Generally speaking if people us minoxidil as directed on the packaging there is no problem. Of course there are always those who are sensitive to it. But that is the case with any drug or supplement. It's when folks start applying two, three or five times the amount recommended that the side effects usually show. Not to mention those applying it at night then going to sleep an hour later with it still wet in on their hair and scalp. During the night they end up smearing it on their pillow case and onto their face and eyes then wonder why they are suddenly "looking older".
