My hair loss, starting at 17, in the last year has really accelerated, to the point where at the unfortunate age of 19 I am probably around a norwood 3 with slight diffusion all over the top. Safe to say without treatment I'll probably progress onto complete baldness, so I decided that if I'm going to do something about it - it may as well be now while it's still not that bad. I decided I wanted to give rogaine a shot. Of course I researched both finasteride and rogaine, decided I was not going to risk potentially ruining my life (or sex life) with finasteride. Even when I researched rogaine I found that a lot of people suffer side effects, specifically water retention and/or dark circles/wrinkles around eyes.
I work as an actor and have been turned down for roles on account of my hair loss before, I don't want to add a prematurely aged/bloated face to the disadvantages I have in pursuing roles - it's a superficial business.
...and on a purely personal level hair loss is not something which knocks my confidence massively (with females/work etc); but I don't really, at 19 especially, want to have to deal with the hair loss plus the possible facial implications, permanent or temporary. Any input from long term rogaine users? How common in this community are these specific side effects? Are they permanent?
