Hi guys

You might have read Biophysia's rebuttal of Lipoxidil's critique of their Eucapil (fluridil) study - (if you haven't it's here)

Towards the end they make a passing insunation that RU trialling was dropped due to safety concerns over systemic absorption - here's the snippet:

"Furthermore, the absence of a full toxicological report on RU-58841 in any species and the lack of human clinical data has led us to the assumption that product development has been abandoned."

Well, I've just sent Biophysica an email with the following information so hopefully I'll get a response - if I do I'll let you guys know...

Philippe Ballero (President of Proskelia, the company that now owns RU) confirmed back in Feb '03 that RU58841 (re-named PSK 3841 by the new owners) was already in Phase IIa of *human* testing and that they were anticipating moving to Phase IIb next month i.e. October '03

What's more, Proskelia still positively publish the fact that clinical development of PSK 3841 is progressing well - see below -

psk_clinical_pipeline1.gif

Also, here's a summary of PSK 3841 taken from their website (http://www.proskelia.com/rd_32.htm)

---------------------------------------------------------------

Topical Anti-Androgen _ PSK3841

PSK 3841 is an innovative molecule with a unique mechanism of action for the treatment of androgen-dependent conditions, such as alopecia and acne.

In pre-clinical studies, it has shown promising activity in various animal models of acne, alopecia and hirsutism. The product has good systemic and dermal tolerance. In human clinical pharmacology, there was no systemic anti-androgenic activity and again good general and dermal tolerance.

PSK 3841 has completed several Phase I studies and is currently in Phase II for alopecia. A clinical proof of principle phase II study in acne is also ongoing.

This product is available for licensing.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hope that clears things up a bit :)

follow the link below then click on 'photos' on the left and a new window should popup - may take a few seconds to load...

Let me know if it still doesn't work!

It seems that baldness and bone structure are related in some way. Msm makes your hair grow at a much faster rate and it also plays an important role in reducing joint inflammation. There have been a couple of findings by scientists that have shown that some medicines used for treating osteoporosis have also shown to regrow hair in individuals.

Funkster,

Have you noticed any side effects from RU? Also, I posted a message to you through your Web site -- please get to that as soon as possible.

Cheers,

D.

Great progress funk, looks like your coming on nicely at the 6 months mark! Would you recommend topical spironolactone? Any tips?

hey drinkrum :: nope, no side-effects, although it's only been 3 months of treatment, so it's still early days.

hi lizzad :: thanks man - sure, quite a few guys are rotating spironolactone and 17a-estradiol. Actually, I'd have to put some of my early sucess (around month 3-4) on the spironolactone/17a combo that I was using specifically on the hairline. Neither treatment IMO is a real show-stopper but they're a helpful addition to an already strong regimen.

Hey

Funkster, were you on 0.5mg/day Dutasteride? What'd you think?...now you're on finestride?

Hey joe_mama

I slowly reduced my dutasteride intake to zero since my goal was always to go for a topical-only regimen. That fact that I now use RU and fluridil which should be strong topical AR blockers, I feel I can take the risk of not using internal 5aR inhibition (ie. dutasteride, finasteride etc)

btw, I had absolutely no side-effects nor reactions whilst on dutasteride - in fact I'd have to attribute much of my recent success to it, but the fact that my hairloss is recent and quite mild, I'm happy to risk 6-12 months on a topical-only regimen. If I find that I start falling backwards, then I'd get back onto internal 5aRs faster than you could say 'I'd like a large box of finasteride, please' :)

Cheers, funkster

Funkster, its good to see you. I want to thank you for the help you provided me when I was just starting out. You're one of the most informed people around and it meant a lot to me. Thanks to you (and others) my hairloss is now well under control.

We are all still curious about fluridil and RU. Any news on this is appreciated as well as anything else that shows genuine promise. That you're relying on these two instead of internals is very exciting. I wish you the best of luck.

Funkster your hairloss looks just like mine and I would kill to get your results.

Plus I am going to steal the code for the way you display your comparison pictures, I can't easilly come up with a way to do it that good on my computer so I am going to have to make a local webpage using your code just to look at my own pix

Wait - what did you use to make that webpage? That might be easier...unless you used notepad like me :hairy:

thanks axon & flux :)

Hey yeddie - I'm dynamically creating the framset and URL references with cold fusion (i.e. looping through 1 to x for the images, TDs etc) - should be very easy to make a static version too. Give me your email address and I'll send you the code - you'l need to tweak it a bit, but should save you some time.

Hmm, when you click on 'photos' do you get a new window popping up with lots of thumnails, or just a normal page with 4 images? If it's the latter then you need to try refreshing the site (hold down 'shift' and click 'Refresh' on your browser).

If that doesn't work, try this direct link :: http://www.funkster.com/follicles/library.cfm :: - it'll only show the pix, not the rest of the site (diary, regimen etc).
