Spionolactone by itself is stable in air, but not when in the presence of certain solvents.
The previous S5 Bedtime cream, in the middle of 2016 with 1% Adenosine and Tocopheryl Acetate had a clearly labeled expiry date of about 30 days and storage information; Keep refrigerated or at room temp.
The present S5 plus cream (presumably from the same company, Hairgen) only has storage information. Nothing else.
So why the 30 day expiry date on the previous generation? Was it due to degradation? Was it just a marketing ploy to get you use it in 30 days? There is no information.
I emailed Hairgen many times over the year. They have never responded. Nothing. Silence.
This is the apparent overt arrogance that can come as a consequence of monopoly. All I can do is ask questions here, assume, make a judgement. If the expiry date was a concern over degradation, the formulation may have been one which included certain alcohols as solvents known to cause degradation.
Why have they removed the expiry date. Have they changed their basic formulation? One can only guess.
From the Patent;
Topical spironolactone composition patent;
EP 0410348 A1
"Many alcohols, particularly alcohols having a low number of carbon atoms, degrade spironolactone."
"alcohols such as ethanol and isopropyl alcohol are undesirable because they tend to cause degradation of spironolactone."
"spironolactone tends to be unstable upon long term storage with propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol ether of cetyl alcohol."
"a suitable solvent for spironolactone such as diisopropyl adipate" means that; "In the formulation of the present invention, spironolactone is very stable and would be expected to remain stable for at least two years."
Are they using this patent? Try asking them. Maybe I should be asking the owner of this site directly.
Do you trust Hairgen? I don't trust anyone who refuses to answer basic questions or concerns. I want to know for sure, can I store the present S5 plus for more that a few months, room or refrigerator without causing degradation. If not can it be stored long term in the freezer.
Yes or No, Hairgen. How hard is that for you?
