So im currently experimenting with Saw palmetto myself..... not nearly as clinical and well documented as OP though. I started off at about 100mgs a day, slowly slowly increasing the dose. I am now on 250mg a day. Been on 250mgs for a week.

So far no positive notes, but i wasnt expecting any for at least 2-3 months. However... for the past month i've noticed thinning on the front line and my hairs starting to get wispy. I have been hopeful this was just natural progression and if the saw palmetto was going to help it would start to reverse that in the next 2-3 months.

But i just recently read an old forum posting about someone getting thinner hair AFTER being on saw palmetto for awhile and it now has me a bit worried. I wanted to try this before jumping on finasteride as i see it as a bit of a stepping stone that at the absolute worst wouldnt hurt my hair loss but wouldnt help it. But now im worried it might actually be hurting it.

Any opinions on this?

Also im almost out of my bottle of SP and i got a good deal on the Regenepure stuff... typically over priced but i got it for $18 a bottle. I'm wondering how much SP is in it (SP as listed as the first ingredient in its proprietary list)

https://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Advanced-Strength-Supplement-Capsules/dp/B012Y1M758

Anyone know?

I highly doubt Saw Palmetto would hurt your hair, if so it's an abnormality. On the other hand Saw Palmetto is far from a reliable treatment and is very likely doing little to nothing. If you are going to start finasteride at some point you're probably best to start it now.

Hi Checkers

I don't know about this product Regenepure caps containing Saw Palmetto. As I am a French woman, it's not so easy
to catch everything but I cannot see what it is the exact composition of Regenepure. How much mg does a cap contain
SP ?
I've already read that taking Saw Palmetto alone is not good for hair but more interesting when mixed with others ingredients
good for hair.

K-max caps that I am taking contain 160 mg of SP each with nettle, zinc, copper, etc ..... and recommandation is to take
2 caps a day at minimum, hence 320 mg a day.

Anyway, I hope it will help my hairloss but for the moment it's not really the case.

So ive been taking SP for a bout 2 weeks now... maybe a bit longer but ive been gradually increasing the amount i take so i doubt it was really doing much 4 weeks ago. I am currently at approximately 320mg a day.

No change in hair quality,I have these hairs at the front which have just turned wispy... i am hoping they will be the first to change and start to get stronger...(is that how this works when/if a treatmeant becomes effective? hairs in their dieing phase start to get stronger?) anyways i wasnt expecting any change this soon (still hoping there might have been) and this isnt the reason im posting.

I havnt really gotten morning wood for a few years now, and boners with the ladies was usually facilitated by some prescription help. However today i woke up with some morning glory. Looked down and "said hey buddy" after a lil cuddling with the girlfriend we proceeded to have some sexuals, and it was awesome. Havnt been able to do that whithout help in awhile. Wondering if the SP might be doing it?

My libido increased very noticeably after starting Saw Palmetto and Pumpkin Seed Oil. It dropped to normal levels, or maybe slightly higher, after 3 months though. I think it occurs because of the increased T when inhibiting 5ar.

It can happen with finasteride also I believe.

thats what im thinking. I have an older script for finasteride that i decided to try a few months back, took it for a week. First few days noticed morning glory big time... then ball ache.. then complete (possibly perceived) loss of libido which got me to stop immediately.

I like your thread, im following and trying my own much more horribly documented and applied application of SP. Giving it till end of December to start showing any signs of helping. If it doesnt thats when i plan to slowly slowly slowly start introducing finasteride.

How is the Saw Palmetto working out for you? You're also taking Pumpkin Seed Oil?

I started to many things at the same time to know for sure how effective each treatment is. I started minoxidil, nizoral, saw palmetto and pumpkin seed oil about 6 months ago.

Minoxidil gave me a well needed boost on my hairline, and the rest of my hair is seriously looking better than ever. My shedding has yet to increase to what it was before treatment, besides during my minoxidil shed. So I'm sure more than just the minoxidil is working, can't be sure it's not just the nizoral but my guess is that the Saw Palmetto is having some effect. Probably the pumpkin seed oil as well.

No sides at all currently.

That's great to hear! You're using 320mg SP and how much PSO?

Yes 320mg Saw Palmetto. I used 2000mg capsules for the first few months, now I take 3 teaspoons of the oil every day.

Hi SmoothSailing,

As I live in France, I would like to know the name of Saw Palmetto and pumpkin seed oil you are taking. Is it only one product or
2 separate products.
Could you help me pls ?
Thanks a lot

I'm taking 320mg of Saw Palmetto extract. The important thing to look for is the percentage of fatty acids and sterols. It should say it in the ingredients, if it doesn't don't buy it. If it does ensure it's 80 - 90%.

I took Pumpkin Seed Oil Extract at the beginning. 2,000mg liquid capsules a day. I know take 3 teaspoons of actual pumpkin seed oil.

They are separate products.

Many thanks for your answer SmoothSailing.
I understand they are 2 separate products but is it possible to have the product sheet of Saw Palmetto and PSO you are taking
in order to see the ingredients and proportion ?
Sorry for all my questions !

Just as a note, I've used saw P for about a 10 month period consistently (320 mg everyday), + some other supplements, and I continued to lose ground.

So I hope it works for you, but if you are an aggressive sufferer, I would get on a proven regimen.

Thanks for sharing. Out of interest do you know the percentage of fatty acids and sterols in the saw palmetto you were taking? Anything lower than 80-90% and you were on to low a dose.

Hey Smoothsailing, any further updates?

Hair is currently doing great. Minoxidil has thickened up the front enough to hide my NW2. The rest of my hair is healthier and fuller than it has been in years. Grows much faster as well. Before I remember that I'd usually go to the barbers when my sides were getting too long, now it's always my top that get's messy first. Shedding is far lower than it was pre-treatment. And it hasn't changed at all since the first month of treatment.

My personal guess as to what's working for me, Minoxidil >> Saw Palmetto > Nizoral >>> other sh*t.

Seriously though if I hadn't read so many horror stories of people's minoxidil gains being lost I'd think minoxidil the best stuff in the world. I now see a new line of small, but thickish, hairs along my hairline. Dunno if they'll become full hairs but if they do I'll be f*****g delighted.

"who do not want or cannot tolerate the side-effects of standard medications". This is a pretty bold statement, are they saying a topical SP treatment does not cause sexual side effects? I can't tell from any of the above if SP actually reduces DHT or simply blocks it from doing damage. That would be the holy grail ; I've always been opposed to trying Proscar again after using it many years ago, but if topical SP does not actually affect DHT levels, I'd certainly try that just out of curiosity.
