Hey all.

I have a question about the effectiveness of Saw Palmetto. I'm using 900mg now as my main anti-androgen. Before I used dutasteride 0.5mg, but my supply ran out and by the looks of it I'll won't be taking dutasteride for at least a month. Had month of horrible shedding with dutasteride though, and my hair is a mess at the moment.

Question is; is Saw Palmetto good enough to prevent my hair from falling out this upcomming month. Sure, a month might not be much but I'm rather safe than sorry. Has Saw Palmetto been proven to be effective against male pattern baldness? Any one taking it at the moment? Please tell me, as it would ease a lot of worries.

Thanks

No it has not been proven effective for male pattern baldness.

There are a couple of tenuous studies that suggest it might be effective, but generally it just seems like people are making a connection between BPH and male pattern baldness and assuming if it works for one it must work for the other.

There are in fact studies that suggest it doesn't actually do anything for BPH either.

Hmm wow I was looking for an older study, but just came across this from last month: Saw Palmetto No Benefit as Prostate Remedy

Thanks. Will try and see if I can get dutasteride or finasteride any where else then. So far it hasn't been a succes.

How long can I go without a DHT blocker before I see any difference in my hair?

I'm too dependant on a Dutch forum for that. They have a section where people can buy and sell their stuff. I have no credit card so I can't buy anything online, and no body is selling apperantly on the forum. The fact I could get dutasteride before is already pretty much a wonder...

So I'm pretty much fucked right now I guess?

It helps some but what works a lot better in my experience is Nettle Root extract (see http://goo.gl/CBEvc). Overall I would seriously reconsider blocking 5AR. But that's just my take after my very own very bad experiences.
